Senior Software Development Engineer, AWS CloudWatch, AWS Observability Analytics

CloudWatch Logs is one of the highest-scale logging services at AWS trusted by millions of customers to reliably capture store and protect their operational and security logs. We operate large multi-region distributed systems handling an enormous volume of data every day.

Were looking for a senior Software Development Engineer to be a technical leader on the team. Youll own our hardest distributed-systems problems end to end setting the technical direction driving the designs that unlock the next order of magnitude of scale and raising the bar for how the whole team builds and operates. This is a role for someone who wants to shape where the team is going not just execute against it.

Key job responsibilities
- Own the technical vision and multi-year roadmap for major areas of CloudWatch Logs and drive alignment on it with tech leads PMs and leadership.
- Lead the design of complex high-scale distributed systems making the architecture decisions that define how our services scale and evolve.
- Mentor and grow engineers across the team through design reviews code reviews and hands-on technical coaching raising the collective bar.
- Identify the highest-leverage problems and systemic improvements then rally the team around solving them.
- Partner with senior leadership to turn business and customer priorities into concrete technical strategy and commitments.
- Drive operational excellence at the architectural level designing out whole classes of recurring issues rather than patching them.


About the team

- 5 years of non-internship professional software development experience
- 5 years of programming with at least one software programming language experience
- 5 years of leading design or architecture (design patterns reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
- Experience as a mentor tech lead or leading an engineering team

- 5 years of full software development life cycle including coding standards code reviews source control management build processes testing and operations experience
- Bachelors degree in computer science or equivalent

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience qualifications and location.
