Position: Senior Project Engineer
Location: Columbus OH
American Structurepoint is seeking an experienced Senior Project Engineer to join our growing Ohio Traffic Group. This position will provide technical leadership and engineering oversight on a diverse range of traffic operations safety planning and design projects for ODOT municipalities counties MPOs and other public- and private-sector clients throughout Ohio.
The ideal candidate is an Ohio-licensed Professional Engineer with progressive traffic engineering experience who can independently lead technical assignments communicate effectively with clients and project teams and help develop the next generation of traffic engineers.
- Lead and perform traffic engineering assignments for ODOT LPA county municipal and private-sector projects throughout Ohio.
- Lead technical work involving traffic operations and capacity analysis intersection and corridor studies traffic impact studies traffic forecasting traffic safety studies traffic signal design signing and pavement marking maintenance of traffic and multimodal transportation improvements.
- Perform and oversee traffic operational analyses using software such as Synchro/SimTraffic HCS SIDRA VISSIM TransModeler or similar analysis and simulation tools as appropriate to the assignment.
- Conduct and oversee traffic safety analyses including crash data evaluation network screening crash-pattern identification countermeasure development and evaluation of potential safety improvements.
- Develop and evaluate intersection and corridor improvement alternatives including traffic signals roundabouts turn lanes access-management improvements innovative intersections lane reconfigurations and pedestrian/bicycle improvements.
- Lead and review traffic signal signing pavement marking lighting and maintenance-of-traffic plans as applicable.
- Prepare and review technical memoranda traffic studies safety studies engineering reports calculations exhibits and other project deliverables.
- Serve as a technical lead and technical reviewer on assigned projects and ensure work complies with applicable ODOT OMUTCD/MUTCD AASHTO FHWA and local agency requirements.
- Perform and document QA/QC reviews to ensure technical accuracy consistency and quality of project deliverables.
- Coordinate effectively with roadway planning structures environmental survey and other disciplines on multidisciplinary transportation projects.
- Support Project Managers in developing project scopes fees schedules budgets staffing plans and technical approaches.
- Monitor assigned task budgets and schedules and proactively communicate potential scope schedule or budget concerns to the Project Manager.
- Participate in meetings with clients ODOT municipalities counties MPOs stakeholders and reviewing agencies and serve as a technical representative for assigned projects.
- Mentor and develop junior engineers and technical staff through task delegation technical guidance QA/QC and regular feedback.
- Support business development activities including proposal preparation technical approaches scopes and fees project interviews and client meetings.
- Participate in professional organizations and industry activities and help strengthen American Structurepoints presence within Ohios transportation engineering community.
- Promote collaboration and resource sharing across disciplines and design centers consistent with American Structurepoints ONE company philosophy.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- Bachelors degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited engineering program.
- Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in the State of Ohio or ability to obtain Ohio PE reciprocity within six months of employment.
- Minimum of 6 years of progressive traffic/transportation engineering experience preferably including experience on Ohio transportation projects.
- Demonstrated experience performing and/or leading traffic engineering assignments for ODOT municipalities counties MPOs or similar transportation agencies.
- Working knowledge of ODOT project development processes standards specifications manuals and procedures along with applicable MUTCD/OMUTCD AASHTO and FHWA guidance.
- Demonstrated technical experience in multiple traffic engineering disciplines such as traffic operations safety analysis traffic forecasting traffic impact studies intersection/corridor studies signal design lighting design signing and pavement marking maintenance of traffic and/or multimodal transportation.
- Experience with commonly used traffic engineering software such as Synchro/SimTraffic HCS SIDRA VISSIM TransModeler or similar applications.
- Ability to independently develop engineering analyses recommendations technical memoranda reports plans and other project deliverables.
- Demonstrated ability to lead technical assignments coordinate with multidisciplinary teams and manage multiple concurrent priorities and deadlines.
- Strong understanding of QA/QC principles and demonstrated ability to review technical work prepared by others.
- Strong written verbal presentation and interpersonal communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability and interest in mentoring and developing junior engineering staff.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and other standard engineering/project collaboration tools.
