Job Summary

MalaceHR is seeking an experienced Senior HVAC Technician to support the operation maintenance troubleshooting and repair of commercial HVAC systems. This position requires strong hands-on experience with chilled water systems rooftop units (RTUs) VRF/VRV systems VFDs pumps air handlers and associated mechanical equipment.

The Senior HVAC Technician will serve as a technical resource for complex HVAC issues perform preventative and corrective maintenance and help ensure building systems operate safely reliably and efficiently.

Job Responsibilities
  • Perform advanced troubleshooting diagnostics maintenance and repair of commercial HVAC and mechanical systems.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot chilled water systems including chillers pumps valves piping coils and associated controls.
  • Service and repair rooftop units (RTUs) air handling units (AHUs) fan coil units split systems and packaged HVAC equipment.
  • Troubleshoot maintain and repair VRF/VRV systems including indoor and outdoor units refrigerant circuits controls and communication issues.
  • Diagnose mechanical electrical refrigeration and control-related HVAC failures.
  • Troubleshoot and adjust VFDs motors belts sheaves bearings dampers actuators and associated components.
  • Perform preventative maintenance including filter changes coil cleaning lubrication belt replacement and adjustment refrigerant checks equipment inspections and operational testing.
  • Monitor HVAC system performance and identify opportunities to improve reliability comfort and energy efficiency.
  • Troubleshoot chilled and condenser water flow issues temperature differentials pressure concerns pumps and control valves.
  • Perform refrigerant recovery evacuation charging leak detection and other refrigeration-related work in accordance with applicable regulations.
  • Interpret mechanical drawings wiring diagrams equipment schematics sequences of operation and technical manuals.
  • Utilize building automation and control systems to assist with equipment diagnostics and troubleshooting.
  • Respond to HVAC service calls and emergency maintenance issues in a timely and professional manner.
  • Complete accurate documentation of preventative maintenance repairs inspections parts used and equipment conditions.
  • Coordinate with vendors and contractors when specialized repairs or additional support are required.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to junior HVAC technicians and maintenance personnel as needed.
  • Ensure all work is completed in accordance with company safety procedures manufacturer recommendations and applicable codes and regulations.
  • Maintain strong communication with customers facility personnel vendors and other members of the maintenance team.
Essential Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • TDLR registration or applicable state/local HVAC registration or licensing.
  • EPA Section 608 Universal Certification required.
  • Strong knowledge of commercial HVAC refrigeration electrical and mechanical systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently diagnose complex HVAC equipment failures.
  • Ability to read wiring diagrams mechanical drawings schematics and sequences of operation.
  • Strong electrical troubleshooting skills including experience with motors contactors relays sensors VFDs and control circuits.
  • Valid drivers license as required for the position.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently while also supporting a team environment.
Preferred Experience
  • 5 years of commercial HVAC service and maintenance experience with senior-level troubleshooting responsibilities preferred.
  • Strong hands-on experience with chilled water HVAC systems.
  • Experience maintaining and troubleshooting commercial RTUs.
  • Experience with VRF/VRV systems preferably across multiple manufacturers.
  • Experience with chilled water pumps control valves AHUs FCUs VAV boxes cooling towers and hydronic systems.
  • Experience troubleshooting VFDs sheaves belts motors and mechanical drive systems.
  • Familiarity with Building Automation Systems (BAS) and HVAC controls.
  • Experience working in commercial industrial healthcare laboratory critical environment or large campus facilities is preferred.
  • Previous experience serving as a senior technician lead technician or technical resource for other HVAC personnel is preferred.
