The Role
General Motors is seeking a Senior Global Commodity Manager to lead our Semiconductor & Tier 1 Supply Base Constraints & Resilience team. This leader will own the operating model for managing semiconductor supplier risk protecting continuity of supply and coordinating rapid responses to disruptions across the semiconductor ecosystem and GM direct Tier 1 and Tier 2 suppliers. Also this Team will develop and maintain growth relationships with semiconductor supply base developing sustainable resilience maps searching areas of risk and developing joint alternatives such as identifying sources for critical materials resilience footprints and strategic buffers and plans to bridge semiconductors running end of life.
The role leads a team of semiconductor supplier managers who serve as GMs primary semiconductors supplier-facing contacts for problem solving and resilience matters. The successful candidate will combine semiconductor supply-chain expertise strong people leadership executive communication and the ability to move quickly from risk identification to practical mitigation.
What Youll Do
- Lead develop and performance-manage a team of semiconductor supplier managers
- Establish clear supplier ownership governance escalation paths and operating standards across the team
- Oversee proactive and reactive management of semiconductor supply risks including capacity constraints allocations shortages force majeure events natural disasters strikes fab and OSAT disruptions and geopolitical exposure
- Build and execute supplier-resilience plans covering manufacturing footprint capacity lead times alternate sources and recovery actions
- Work directly with semiconductor suppliers to understand Tier-N manufacturing at the teardown level including critical materials process steps equipment facilities logistics flows and common points of failure across the semiconductor supply chain
- Use that understanding to identify exposure develop mitigation strategies and implement practical resilience actions collaboratively with semiconductor suppliers
- Lead cross-functional resolution with semiconductor suppliers Tier 1 suppliers Engineering Purchasing Supply Chain Quality Finance and senior GM leadership
- Serve as the escalation leader for critical supplier risks and communicate business impact mitigation options decisions and recovery timing to executive stakeholders
- Balance supplier assignments and team capacity across IDM memory Tier-N manufacturing and other semiconductor categories
- Drive consistent use of risk assessments supplier action plans issue tracking and executive reporting
- Develop meaningful performance indicators for risk closure supplier responsiveness mitigation effectiveness and escalation cycle time
- Strengthen GMs supplier relationships through fact-based engagement clear expectations and disciplined follow-through
- Identify structural gaps in GMs semiconductor resilience approach and lead improvements in processes tools and governance
- Lead and coordinate approvals for expedite brokers semiconductors purchase needs

- Critical disruptions are escalated quickly with clear business impact and recovery plans
- The supplier manager team operates with consistent ownership governance and performance standards. Including emergency purchases approvals
- Resilience actions improve supply continuity reduce exposure and strengthen recovery capability
- Internal stakeholders and semiconductor suppliers experience faster clearer and more effective issue resolution
- The team develops strong talent and maintains sustainable coverage across the semiconductor supplier portfolio
- Develop and implement alternatives to mitigate common supply risk exposures at Tier N level across semiconductor industry
Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)
- Bachelors degree in supply chain engineering business operations or a related field.
- 8 years of experience in semiconductor supply chain supplier management strategic sourcing operations purchasing logistics engineering or manufacturing (any co-op or internship experience will not be considered)
- Demonstrated experience leading teams and developing high-performing professionals.
- Strong understanding of the semiconductor value chain including semiconductor manufacturers foundries OSATs distributors Tier 1 suppliers and automotive electronics
- Experience managing supplier risk supply disruptions capacity constraints allocation events or recovery plans
- Proven ability to influence senior internal and external stakeholders in situations where priorities and interests are not aligned
- Demonstrated command presence with suppliers and the credibility to set expectations challenge performance and drive commitments to closure
- Strong analytical prioritization negotiation and problem-solving skills with a demonstrated bias for action and solution ownership
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills including executive-level reporting.
- A high sense of urgency and the ability to make timely sound decisions in ambiguous high-impact situations
- Ability to travel 25% domestic international
What Will Give You a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)
- Experience supporting automotive electronics connected vehicles ADAS electrification or software-defined vehicle programs
- Direct experience with memory microcontrollers power semiconductors connectivity devices sensors or other automotive semiconductor categories
- Experience managing multi-tier semiconductor supply chains and manufacturing footprints.
- Experience leading supplier business reviews executive escalations crisis-management forums or cross-functional recovery teams
- Global experience working with suppliers and stakeholders across North America Europe and Asia
- Knowledge of semiconductor resiliency practices such as dual sourcing geographic diversification capacity reservation inventory buffers and supplier recovery planning and manufacturing chain
