About the Role
Infrastructure Engineering Incs (IEI)New YorkOffice is looking for an experiencedSenior Construction Inspector to join our Team working with The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey at JFK Airport! Essential Duties/Functions and Responsibilities:
*Perform construction inspection activities throughout all phases of the project.
*Prepare daily narratives special inspection reports time-and-material records and unit price documentation.
*Identify potential extra work issues and notify the Resident Engineer/Assistant Resident Engineer.
*Prepare extra work estimates and supporting documentation.
*Review plans for constructability and provide comments.
*Review contractor payment requests and recommend reasonableness.
*Coordinate inspections at multiple work locations.
*Perform quality assurance inspections of completed work.
*Verify compliance with safety requirements.
*Coordinate work activities closures and utility shutdowns with JFK Operations and Maintenance staff.
*Expected to work independently exercising judgment and initiative.
*Assumes responsibility of administering portions of the contract which includes preparing change orders and pay requests.
*Responsible for overseeing the daily activities of the inspection personnel and seeing to it that they complete detailed and thorough daily activity reports accepting or rejecting the contractors work.
*Ensures construction materials are acquired from approved sources.
*Coordinates inspects reviews and affirms results of tests on construction materials such as concrete asphalt aggregates and soils.
*Maintains an awareness of safety and health requirements and assures compliance of applicable regulations and contract provisions for the protection of the public and construction project personnel.
*Ensures that the contractor applies to the Occupational Health and Safety Act and adheres to environmental and Waste Management requirements.
*Keeps the Resident Engineer informed of conditions which could result in contract change orders and/or delays and assists in proactively resolving these situations.
*Supervises/performs quality assurance inspections to achieve compliance with contract plan and specifications on all phases of treatment facility highway and bridge construction.
Knowledge and Skills:
*Knowledge in industry Standards and Specifications
*Extensive knowledge of standards specifications physical characteristics and properties of roadway structures drainage and utility systems construction materials and the approved methods and equipment used in making physical tests of construction materials.
*Skilled in detecting discrepancies in plans materials and construction methods and processes and in implementing appropriate corrective action.
*Skilled in planning and scheduling inspection activities.
Education and/or Experience:
*Bachelor degree in Civil Engineering or Construction Management is desired
*Minimum of 10 years of experience inspecting construction work varying in size (projects ranging from $500K to $5M) and complexity (multiple crews and crew sizes per shift).
*Ability to read and interpret construction plans specifications and contract documents.
*Must be able to successfully obtain and maintain a Security Identification Display Area (SIDA) badge including passing all required security threat assessments fingerprint-based criminal history records checks and background investigations.
*Strong written and verbal communication skills.
*Experience preparing daily reports inspection reports and contract documentation.
*Experience reviewing contractor payment applications and documenting extra work.
*Ability to coordinate with contractors Resident Engineers and facility personnel.
*Working knowledge of construction safety requirements.
*Possess a valid Drivers License.
*Willing to work weekends and night shifts when required.

Working Conditions:
*IEI will provide a company vehicle for fieldwork with acceptable drivers record.
*Must be physically capable of walking and moving about on the construction sites have good hand-eye coordination and occasionally lift/move up to 50 pounds.
*Occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions or in-progress construction hazards: fumes toxic chemicals risk of electric shock and vibration. Often works around dust asphalt and concrete.
*Sometimes needs to put in extra hours including weekends to keep up with intense construction work at times and deal with unexpected situations and accidents.
*Spends some time working indoors to review blueprints and write reports.
*Usually works a standard 40-hour work week either daytime or nighttime.
*Usually works in outside weather conditions.
