Job Purpose and Impact
The Senior Commodity Freight Analyst - Bulk conducts shipping supply & demand analysis and would require understanding of the commodities and/or shipping markets in scope- bauxite iron ore Capes or related commodities or dry shipping. This role will also be an integral member of the Global Freight Analytics team within the larger Cargill Trading Data and Analytics group and will work in very close cooperation with global trading teams.
Key Accountabilities
- Maintain best of existing iron ore and bauxite trade flows and Cape fundamental analysis (including working with AIS data) propose and lead projects to raise the bar on understanding allocated ship size freight market fundamentals.
- Communicate analysis via presentations or alternative means on weekly monthly and bi-annual basis in structured forum with relevant desk(s).
- Provide tradable insights from data prevailing market trends newsflow and build proactive scenarios versus an agreed base case to handle key uncertainties in fundamentals.
- Address ad hoc questions in a timely manner.
- Drive continuous improvement in analysis and communication thereof.
- Contribute to trading game plan as required by trading desk leader.
- Liaise with other members of the analytics team on relevant data and insights
- Work with Global Freight Analytics team on long term projections for assigned commodities and ship size demand or on projects as need arises
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years of experience in a major or minor dry bulk commodity.
- Technical skills to ensure automated efficient processes are built in collaboration with data and technology teams. Python proficiency key; leveraging AI in a transparent way a differentiator.
- Highly numerate. Genuine passion to turn data into actionable intelligence
- Ability to communicate complex concepts / logic in simple synthetic and non-technical terms to business audience.
- Commercial flair approach interact and debate with fellow analysts and trading teams
- Demonstrate knowledge and authority to formulate own viewpoints challenge existing views while maintaining humility to continue learning and absorb differing perspectives.
- Strong communication skills to articulate market views based on fundamentals differentiating facts vs opinions.
- Able to identify business needs and translate them into relevant solutions in terms of systems models and market analysis.
- Demonstrate flexibility in adapting to changing business needs.
