Job Description:

L3Harris is seeking a skilled and motivated Software Engineer to join our Space Systems this role you will contribute to the development and enhancement of software solutions that support the strategic objectives of the organization. This is a hands-on on-site position that involves close collaboration with a dynamic multidisciplinary engineering team to design develop and maintain software used for the integration test verification and operational readiness of deliverable products.

The ideal candidate will bring strong software engineering skills along with experience in space defense or other complex mission-critical environments.

Essential Functions:

• Participate in the full software development lifecycle to create software solutions used to integrate and test complex customer-deliverable hardware.
• Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams to understand mission needs and define document and refine software requirements and designs.
• Design implement review integrate and test software using a variety of programming languages including C C XML and Python across Windows and Linux platforms.
• Support hardware integration and test activities including software troubleshooting defect resolution performance improvement and technical problem-solving.
• Apply software engineering best practices and established DevOps processes to deliver efficient reliable and maintainable solutions.
• Leverage automation reuse and emerging AI-enabled development tools to improve productivity quality and long-term software reliability.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance is required for this position.

Qualifications:

• Bachelors degree in Computer Science Computer Engineering Software Engineering or a related field and a minimum of 2 years of prior related experience. Graduate Degree or equivalent with 0 to 2 years of prior related lieu of a degree minimum of 6 years of prior related experience.
• 1 year of experience in one or more programming languages such as C Python or similar.

Preferred Additional Skills:

• Experience with Atlassian tools (JIRA Confluence Bitbucket) or similar configuration management and defect-tracking tools.
• Working knowledge of Agile methodologies including Scrum practices team facilitation and backlog management.
• Experience with DevOps tools and technologies for virtualization and automation (e.g. Docker Jenkins CMake git/Bitbucket Artifactory).
• Experience with object-oriented software architecture and design.
• Experience using AI-assisted and agentic software development tools (e.g. GitHub Copilot OpenAI Codex Claude Code or similar) to improve software design implementation debugging testing code review and engineering productivity.
• Experience with SQL NoSQL POSTGRES Elasticsearch or equivalent database infrastructures.
• Experience with drivers/hardware interfaces including PCIe 1553 RS232 FPGAs and other unique hardware.
• Knowledge of UML diagrams such as class diagrams component diagrams state diagrams sequence diagrams etc.

• Experience with space hardware test methodologies and operations.
• Familiarity with the full software development lifecycle (SDLC).
• Experience in software integration and test with strong software development and troubleshooting skills.
