Universal Stainless & Alloy Products Inc. is seeking a dependable and safety-focused Scrap Yard employee to join our team in Bridgeville PA. This position is responsible for receiving organizing weighing recording and preparing scrap materials used in Melt Shop operations.
The ideal candidate is organized dependable comfortable working around heavy equipment and able to work in a fast-paced industrial environment.
POSITION OVERVIEW
The scrap yard utility position supports the Melt Shop operations by receiving and recording incoming materials maintaining accurate inventory levels preparing scrap charges and coordinating material movement throughout the scrap yard.
This position will begin as a Utility role. Employees will receive training and gain experience until they meet the qualifications required to advance into the posted position title.
The position requires basic math skills strong organization attention to details and the ability to safely work around trucks cranes scrap metal and other heavy equipment.
BASIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Receive and record incoming Melt Shop materials
- Maintain accurate inventory records for Melt Shop materials
- Weight specified amounts of scrap metal
- Load scrap metal into charging buckets
- Receive record and store materials in the appropriate locations
- Direct Melt Shop material truck traffic
- Direct and coordinate activities of the Scrap Yard crane
- Maintain organized material storage areas
- Use hooks slings magnets claws charging buckets and scale transfer equipment
- Follow established safety and material-handling procedures
- Communicate material or operational concerns to supervisor
- Maintain a clean and safe work area
- Perform other duties as assigned
SAFETY-SENSITIVE POSITION
This is a safety-sensitive position in a heavy industrial environment. Employees work around scrap metal trucks cranes and charging equipment and other heavy machinery.
Employees are required to follow all safety procedures wear required PPE and maintain constant awareness of equipment and vehicle movement.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
The Scrap Yard is a heavy industrial work environment and may involve exposure to:
- Scrap metal and heavy materials
- Overhead cranes
- Trucks and material-handling equipment
- Outdoor weather conditions
- Noise and dust
- Moving equipment
- Required PPE

EXPERIENCE:
- Previous manufacturing warehouse steel or heavy industrial experience preferred
- Material handling experience preferred
- Forklift or overhead crane experience is a plus
- Scrap yard or Melt Shop experience is a plus
EDUCATION/TRAINING:
- High School Diploma or GED required
- Receiving and department-specific training will be provided
SCHEDULE:
- 12-hour rotating shifts: 6:00AM-6:00PM/ 6:00PM-6:00AM
- Scrap Yard employees rotate between day and night shifts approximately every two weeks
- There are no permanent assigned day or night shifts
- Weekend and holiday work may be required
- Overtime may be required based on operational needs
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods
- Ability to bend reach climb and work around industrial equipment
- Ability to occasionally lift up to 50 pounds
- Ability to work safely around trucks cranes scrap metal and other heavy equipment
- Ability to wear required PPE for extended periods of time
- Ability to wear PPE for extended periods of time
- Ability to perform essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation
TRAINING AND GROWTH:

Employees will receive hands-on training on receiving procedures material identification inventory processes equipment and department- specific safety requirements. Additional cross-training may be available as employees gain experience.
