Job Summary
We have an opening for a Risk and Insurance Manager for Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) in the Staff Relations Division under the Directors Office. This role will provide extensive specialized knowledge and expertise and will serve as a consultant for all aspects of risk management for the Laboratory in the functional areas of loss control safety loss prevention training claims mitigation/claims management with an emphasis in workers compensation and insurance.
The selected candidate will be responsible for the strategic planning implementation and effectiveness of a comprehensive Risk Management Program across the Laboratory linking plans with LLNLs organizational mission as well as leadership goals and objectives. Risk Management programs will be directed to the identification analysis implementation and evaluation of initiatives to reduce risk prevent and control exposures arising from operations and activities. The selected candidate will coordinate with other functional areas in responding to crisis situations and adverse outcomes; create apply and monitor facility level safety programs such as disaster recovery emergency evacuation fire safety etc.; develop and implement a strategic plan for the management of the Workers Compensation/Employee Injury program and claims; plan and implement safety policies and procedures in compliance with local state and federal rules and regulations. The successful candidate must maintain the utmost integrity professionalism and strict confidentiality at all times.
This position offers a hybrid schedule blending in-person and virtual presence. You will have the flexibility to work from home one or more days per week.
You will
- Lead plan manage oversee and drive Laboratory-wide loss control initiatives to develop Laboratory safety culture and awareness and to decrease claim costs and frequency ensuring strategic deliverables and actions that enable the business requirement of the Laboratory.
- Responsible for overall management and administration of all Laboratory insurance claims including workers compensation general liability and auto liability claims.
- Analyze loss control trends and provide strategic guidance to management for implementing specific solutions and programs.
- Provide required annual reports to the Livermore Site Office Contractor Officer.
- Develop and deliver training modules to support safety and risk management initiatives.
- Lead plan manage and oversee the complete renewal process for corporate insurance policies that may include workers compensation general liability foreign package auto employment practices directors & officers and errors & omissions.
- Participate in Return to Work and Illness and Injury Prevention Programs to provide the workers compensation program perspective.
- Serve as a consultant providing strategic guidance to stakeholders including the Deputy Director PAD for Operations and Business General Counsel Prime Contract Manager and the NNSA Site Office Contracting Officers.
- Serve as a project leader on significant programs/projects.
- Responsible for Contract 44 requirements concerning insurance programs.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications :
Ability to secure and maintain a U.S. DOE Q-level security clearance which requires U.S. citizenship.
Bachelors degree in Business or related field or equivalent combination of education and related experience.
- Expert knowledge and extensive experience in managing an enterprise workers compensation program and managing complex corporate insurance renewals and broker/carrier negotiations.
- Demonstrated knowledge of commercial insurance coverages and claims handling across multiple lines.
- Expert knowledge understanding and extensive experience in risk management and application of risk management principles for diverse significant and unique situations.
- Expert knowledge and understanding of legal principles of tort with experience applying in a variety of situations.
- Significant experience applying related applicable federal/state laws.
- Strong and effective interpersonal skills with proven ability to influence and advise executives across functional lines.
- Advanced communication skills both verbally and in writing with parties who may have different and/or conflicting interests and interpretations.
- Superior skills in conflict resolution and meeting facilitation.
- Experience and success in developing training modules and presenting information to large groups of diverse audiences.
- Experience in project management handling multiple projects simultaneously.
- Proven statistical analysis and problem-solving skills.
- Demonstrated knowledge of various software applications such as the Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe Acrobat.
- Experience working with management in a partnership environment
Qualifications We Desire
- MBA or other post graduate degree desirable
- Associate in Risk Management (ARM) Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) or other related professional designations desirable.
Pay Range: $163170- $199836 Annually
This is the lowest to highest salary range in good faith we would pay for this role at the time of this posting. An employees position within the salary range will be based on several factors including but not limited to specific competencies relevant education qualifications certifications experience skills seniority geographic location performance and business or organizational needs.

This position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) Q-level clearance.
