Ready to start a career in the restaurant and hospitality industry AAWDCs Restaurant Ready cohort prepares participants for opportunities in the restaurant industry through practical job readiness and food safety training.

Participants will complete Restaurant Ready a national program developed by the National Restaurant Association Educational Foundation (NRAEF) that builds the foundational job and life skills needed to pursue restaurant careers. The cohort also includes ServSafe Food Handler training covering safe food handling practices prevention of foodborne illness and food allergy awareness.

Program structure
Complete a one-week bootcamp followed by five to six weeks of on-the-job training where youll apply your skills in a restaurant workplace.

AAWDC will work with business partners to develop on-the-job training (OJT) opportunities allowing participants to build their skills through paid employment. Participants who have already identified an employer they would like to work with are encouraged to share that information. AAWDC can connect with the employer to discuss their interest in an OJT contract and determine whether the opportunity is a fit.

Eligibility

No prior restaurant experience is necessary. This program is designed for individuals interested in developing the skills needed to begin a career in the restaurant industry.

Eligibility:
  • You are 18 or over: and
  • Reside in Anne Arundel County & Annapolis; and
  • Authorized to work in the U.S.; and
  • Registered w/ Selective Service (males born on or after January 1 1960)
  • Be able to provide all required documentation
  • Have a High School Diploma/GED
  • Have reliable transportation

  • Physical readiness: Ability to meet the essential duties of the intended position which may include standing for up to eight hours with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Adaptability and flexibility: Openness to different shifts work assignments and opportunities across departments.
  • Multitasking skills: Ability to manage multiple tasks and adjust priorities in a busy environment.
  • Team-oriented mindset: Willingness to collaborate with coworkers and contribute to shared goals.
  • Positive attitude: A constructive approach to work customer service and challenges.
  • Patience and active listening: Willingness to listen carefully follow instructions and respond thoughtfully to others.
  • Relationship-building skills: Enjoyment of connecting with customers and coworkers and building positive working relationships.
  • Willingness to learn: Openness to developing new skills receiving feedback and applying what is learned.
  • Commitment to training: Availability and dedication to attend scheduled sessions and complete required training.
