The Registered Nurse in the Surgical Intensive Care Unit (SICU) provides specialized nursing care to critically ill patients in a Level I trauma Magnet-designated acute care hospital. This role involves delivering skilled nursing assessments medication administration treatment planning and collaborating closely with the interdisciplinary team. The nurse will primarily work night shifts managing complex patient care with a focus on critical care standards and safety.
Responsibilities:- Provide comprehensive nursing care to critically ill patients in the SICU.
- Perform patient assessments administer medications and implement treatment plans.
- Collaborate with physicians interdisciplinary team members and other healthcare providers to optimize patient outcomes.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation using Cerner electronic medical records.
- Float within scope to other ICU units as needed to meet facility staffing requirements.
- Adhere to hospital policies and procedures including infection control and patient safety protocols.
- Participate in ongoing education and competency development related to critical care nursing.
- Active Registered Nurse license in Illinois.
- Minimum of 1 year of nursing experience in an ICU or critical care setting.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certifications.
- Strong clinical assessment medication administration and critical care skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced high-acuity environment.
- Excellent communication and interdisciplinary collaboration skills.
- Experience working in a Magnet-designated hospital or Level I trauma center.
- Prior experience with Cerner electronic medical records system.
- Additional critical care certifications or specialty training.
- Work primarily night shifts (18:45 - 07:15) with a 3x12-hour schedule.
- Will float to other ICU units within scope as needed.
- Must be willing to work every other weekend.
- On-call shifts may be assigned and count as worked shifts.
- Return to office (RTO) restrictions ideally limited to no more than 5 days.
- Parking permit required; no cost to employee.
- Hospital is a Level I trauma center and Magnet designated facility.
- Three 12-hour night shifts per week (1845 to 0715).
- Block schedule requests can be discussed with the manager.
- Work every other weekend is required.
- Guaranteed hours with potential for up to 36 hours of call-off without pay per thirteen-week assignment.
