The Registered Nurse in the Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) is responsible for providing skilled nursing care to patients recovering from surgery. This role requires at least 2 years of PACU experience and a well-rounded knowledge of all types of surgery. The nurse will conduct patient assessments administer medications coordinate treatment plans and collaborate closely with the interdisciplinary team to ensure safe and effective patient recovery. Strong communication skills and the ability to work Monday through Friday with flexibility are essential.
Responsibilities:
Provide post-operative nursing care to patients recovering from anesthesia and surgery.
Perform patient assessments including vital signs pain levels and neurological status.
Administer medications and treatments as prescribed.
Monitor patient status and intervene as necessary to maintain patient safety.
Collaborate with surgeons anesthesiologists and other healthcare professionals for comprehensive patient care.
Document patient care accurately in Meditech electronic medical records.
Maintain a safe clean and organized PACU environment.
Respond promptly to patient needs and emergencies in the recovery unit.
Required Skills & Certifications:
Minimum 2 years of PACU nursing experience; 3 years required for first-time travelers.
Active Registered Nurse license in the state of practice.
Certifications: ACLS BLS NIH Stroke Scale and PALS.
Strong clinical assessment medication administration and treatment planning skills.
Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced acute care hospital environment.
Valid drivers license car insurance and automobile if required for travel assignments.
Preferred Skills & Certifications:
Experience with all types of surgical procedures.
Familiarity with Meditech electronic health record system.
Experience working within a 50-mile radius of the facility.
Special Considerations:
Schedule is Monday through Friday; must be open to working any weekdays without specific day-off requests.
No weekend shifts or on-call requirements.
Block scheduling or scheduling requests due to additional employment are not considered.
Return to Office (RTO) restrictions must be included at time of submission.
Facility may call off staff once every two-week pay period.
Scrub color for RNs: Royal Blue.
