Baystate Health is seeking a Registered Nurse to join our Inpatient Pre-Op & PACU team at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield Massachusetts. Our Pre-Op & PACU provides specialized care for both adult and pediatric patients undergoing surgical procedures working closely with surgeons anesthesiologists perioperative staff and interdisciplinary care teams to deliver exceptional patient care throughout the surgical experience.
The Registered Nurse role offers the opportunity to work in a high-acuity fast-paced environment supporting the main Level I Trauma Center operating rooms while providing expert pre-operative preparation and post-anesthesia recovery care. This position allows nurses to expand their clinical expertise while collaborating with a highly experienced team committed to patient-centered care and outstanding outcomes.
- Assess plan implement and evaluate nursing care for adult and pediatric surgical patients.
- Prepare patients and families for surgical procedures through education and clinical assessment.
- Provide post-anesthesia recovery care and monitor patients for changes in condition.
- Collaborate with surgeons anesthesia providers and interdisciplinary team members to ensure safe high-quality care.
- Manage care for patients in a high-acuity fast-paced clinical environment.
- Utilize critical thinking and clinical judgment to respond to changing patient needs.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation in accordance with hospital policies and regulatory standards.
- Support patient safety quality initiatives and excellent patient experience outcomes.

- Hours: 40 hours per week
- Schedule: 10-hour shifts with 6:00 AM or 9:00 AM start times
- Weekend Requirement: Participation in weekend shifts is required
- On-Call Requirement: Participation in a rotating weekend on-call schedule including daytime and overnight coverage is required
- Other Scheduling Requirements: Staff typically work 45 weekends per year and are assigned weekend on-call coverage approximately 45 weekends per year; actual scheduling may vary based on departmental need

- Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
- Current American Heart Association (AHA) BLS Healthcare Provider certification.
Minimum 1 year RN experience required; ED ICU Intercare/IMC strongly preferred.
- Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) required.
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred ADN required.
- Previous Pre-Op PACU Perioperative Critical Care Emergency Department or Surgical Services experience preferred.
- Strong assessment communication collaboration and critical thinking skills.
