Job Summary
Medical ICU is a 20 bed mixed ICU/Step Down unit. We have a combination of ICU 2:1 and Stepdowns are 3: also require floating to our sister unit 5S to take SD 1:3 or progressive level patients at a 4: is a weekend and holiday rotation commitment.
Patient population includes: Severe respiratory failure (e.g. pneumonia ARDS COPD or asthma exacerbations) often requiring mechanical ventilation or high-flow oxygen support Sepsis and septic shock frequently requiring vasopressors invasive monitoring and aggressive fluid management Hemodynamic instability including hypotension arrhythmias or shock state Neurologic conditions such as altered mental status metabolic encephalopathy overdose or stroke (non-surgical) Complex metabolic and endocrine disorders such as diabetic ketoacidosis severe electrolyte abnormalities or liver failure Cardiac conditions not requiring immediate intervention including heart failure exacerbations cardiomyopathy or postcardiac arrest care Gastrointestinal and hepatic failure including GI bleeding acute liver failure or patient needs and acuity:Continuous cardiac and hemodynamic monitoringInvasive lines (arterial lines)NIH and TNK therapyMechanical ventilation noninvasive ventilation or advanced oxygen therapiesTitrated IV medications (vasopressors sedatives insulin antiarrhythmics)Enteral or parenteral nutritionFrequent laboratory monitoring and complex medication regimens
