About the position: This position is Non-appropriated Fund (NAF) and will be assigned to the Fort Dix.


Duties

Continuously observes swimming area to ensure safety of patrons. Ensures the swimming area is open to patrons at scheduled times and only authorized persons are admitted to the area. Rescues swimmers in trouble promptly administers first aid and calls for medical assistance if and when needed. Warns swimmers of unsafe environmental or health conditions ocean conditions of rough water or hazards and recommends closing swimming areas until safe conditions prevail. When working at pools may operate water pumps and control chemical additives to ensure pool waler meets specified standards. Ensures that diving boards are inspected frequently for cracks or loose matting and that necessary repairs are made. May perform other related or incidental duties as assigned for the daily operation of the swimming area to include: cleaning of bath houses wading pools main pools pool decks beach areas sunbathing areas etc.

In order to qualify you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g. Peace Corps AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g. professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if the position allows for qualifying based on education your transcripts will be required as part of your application.

Qualifying Experience:
For pool and aquatic center lifeguards: Must have an approved and current nationally recognized certification in lifesaving and water rescue methods and skills as well as basic first aid training and CPR (both child and adult) training. For coastal lifeguards: In addition to the above must also have surf rescue techniques training. Must have experience which provides a practical knowledge of swimming activities rules and procedures and skill in the use and maintenance of various pool and safety equipment is desirable. Satisfactory completion of installation records checks state and national criminal background checks may be required for positions that provide lifesaving duties for children. Must be able to satisfactorily complete a National Agency Check with Inquiries (NAC!).
