Quality & Operational Improvement Engineer Molecular Pathology and Flow Cytometry

The Department of Pathology is seeking a Quality and Operations Improvement Engineer to design organize and coordinate informatics and quality system program activities for the Molecular Pathology and Flow Cytometry laboratories and faculty. Leads the evaluation and implementation of quality assurance programs and ensures compliance with organizational policies and regulatory and accrediting agencies. This position is 100% time Monday Friday 1^st shift.

Duties to include:

Development implementation and operational oversight of quality programs in Molecular Pathology and Flow Cytometry.

Provide operational oversight to ensure compliance with regulatory accrediting agencies and organizational policies.

Serve as liaison to UI Health Care departments vendors faculty and staff for interpretation of quality policies procedures and programs

Coordinates employee training and continuing education validation testing implementation and maintenance of all equipment within Molecular Pathology and Flow Cytometry.

Assists lead scientists by performing additional activities when needed to ensure smooth functioning of the laboratory.

A bachelors degree in chemical biological or clinical laboratory science from an accredited institution or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required.

1-3 years clinical laboratory experience.

Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment with effective leadership skills.

Demonstrated ability to work independently to meet deadlines efficiently to perform multiple tasks simultaneously and to be highly self-motivated is required.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Desirable Qualifications:

Certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) or a categorical/specialist certification in a laboratory discipline from American Society for Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) or equivalent.

1-3 years quality program experience.

Knowledge of the regulations and accrediting standards of the following agencies: CMS Joint Commission and/or CAP.

Demonstrated ability to perform statistical and trend analysis.

Knowledge of Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) compliance program initiatives.

Molecular Pathology or Flow Cytometry laboratory experience.

Experience working in an academic health center.
