Position Overview

The Laboratory Intern works under the supervision of the Chief Chemist to support laboratory testing analysis and research activities related to cement manufacturing. This position provides hands-on experience with the chemical and physical characterization of raw materials clinker and cement while exposing the intern to laboratory instrumentation analytical methods quality processes and materials science within an industrial environment.

What Youll Do

• Assist with laboratory projects involving the analysis of raw materials clinker and cement chemistry.
• Support the collection documentation organization and entry of laboratory test data.
• Assist with the chemical and physical characterization of materials using laboratory techniques and instrumentation including X-ray fluorescence (XRF) X-ray diffraction (XRD) and titration methods.
• Participate in laboratory testing and analysis to evaluate material composition characteristics and performance.
• Assist with pilot grinding experiments and associated chemical and physical characterization of materials.
• Support the development and evaluation of laboratory testing and analytical methods.
• Compile and organize test results and other laboratory information to support assigned projects.
• Work alongside the Chief Chemist and laboratory personnel to learn testing procedures analytical methods equipment and quality practices used in cement manufacturing.
• Maintain laboratory work areas and equipment in a safe clean and organized condition.
• Follow all Company and plant safety policies rules and procedures as well as applicable MSHA regulations.

Education & Experience

• Currently pursuing a bachelors degree in Chemistry Chemical Engineering Materials Science Civil Engineering Materials Engineering or another related scientific or engineering discipline.
• Previous laboratory experience or exposure to analytical testing methods is preferred but not required.
• Coursework or experience related to chemistry materials science chemical engineering or materials engineering is preferred.

Other Qualifications

• Interest in chemistry materials science laboratory analysis quality or cement manufacturing.
• Exposure to X-ray fluorescence (XRF) X-ray diffraction (XRD) titration or other analytical laboratory methods is helpful but not required.
• Ability and willingness to work in a laboratory located within an active industrial environment.
• Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) and follow established laboratory and plant safety practices.
• Commitment to following all Company safety policies procedures and applicable MSHA regulations.
