JOB SUMMARY

The Part-Time Associate Degree Nursing Faculty member provides instruction and supervision of nursing students in clinical settings and/or the nursing skills and simulation laboratory. Classroom instruction may also be assigned based on the faculty members education credentials professional nursing experience and areas of clinical expertise.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Collaborate with the Department Chair and program faculty to support achievement of course and program goals.
• In team-taught courses consult with the course instructor prior to the start of the semester to review and clarify course expectations and assignments.
• Select appropriate patient assignments for students based on course and clinical learning objectives.
• Apply effective principles of teaching learning and evaluation in the clinical laboratory and/or classroom setting.
• Collaborate with faculty in evaluating student achievement of course and program learning outcomes.
• Work cooperatively with clinical site staff to provide safe effective and meaningful student learning experiences.
• As assigned facilitate student learning in the simulation laboratory using high-fidelity simulation equipment and manikins.
• Teach supervise and evaluate nursing skills and student performance.
• Assist with preparation organization and maintenance of the nursing skills and simulation laboratory.
• Demonstrate professionalism dependability and accountability including regular attendance preparedness and timely completion of assigned responsibilities.
• Complete and maintain required documentation related to the instructional role as directed by the Department Chair and course instructor.
• Attend faculty meetings and other program-related meetings as requested.
• Maintain professional competence through ongoing learning and professional development.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

• Current unencumbered license to practice as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the State of Texas.
• Minimum of three years of varied professional nursing experience as a Registered Nurse.
• Demonstrated current clinical competence and nursing skills.
• Demonstrated commitment to maintaining current knowledge clinical expertise and safe nursing practice in assigned areas of teaching responsibility.
• Demonstrated experience providing education or instruction to students healthcare staff patients and/or families.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Bachelors or Masters degree in nursing
• Experience teaching clinical nursing courses and/or precepting nursing students in a clinical setting
• Experience teaching in a nursing simulationlaboratory or simulated clinical environment
• Experience teaching in a classroom environment

WORK ENVIRONMENT

• Typical office
• Business Hours
• M-Th 8:00 a.m.- 5:00 p.m. F 8:00 a.m. 12:00 p.m.
  • summer M-Th 7:30 a.m. 5:30 pm
• Periodic evening and weekend hours during peak periods (e.g. open enrollment payroll)
• Occasional travel (less than 10%)

Physical Demands:

• Ability to lift move and position equipment and supplies used in nursing instruction skills laboratory and simulation activities.
• Ability to stand walk and move throughout clinical and laboratory settings to effectively supervise and assist students.
• Ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time.
• Sufficient manual dexterity to demonstrate perform and evaluate nursing skills and use instructional and clinical equipment.
• Ability to travel to assigned clinical sites as required.

Salary Range: $36.75 - $52.50 per hour
