Job Duties
This position supports the Offender Management Services Court and Legal Services Section in ensuring accurate application of Virginia statutes and Virginia Department of Corrections policies governing offender sentence computation. This position researches evaluates and interprets incoming court orders jail credits and related documentation to determine state-responsibility status and confirm all sentencing components required for accurate time computation and release-date establishment. The role ensures the integrity of offender records by verifying aliases demographics and sentencing details; prioritizing files based on release proximity; obtaining all necessary legal documents; and maintaining organized workflow and reporting. Through thorough analysis independent problem-solving and effective communication this position contributes to the reliable processing of inmate records for both VADOC facilities and local jails across Virginia.
Minimum Qualifications
Qualified applicants must demonstrate experience researching interpreting and processing legal or criminaljustice documents such as court orders jail credits or sentencing records. Candidates should show ability to analyze complex information apply state laws or policies and work independently with minimal supervision. Experience utilizing automated criminaljustice or recordsmanagement systems (e.g. VACORIS CAIS LIDS VCIN) and performing detailed data verification is essential. Applicants must be able to adapt to procedural changes manage highvolume workloads communicate effectively in writing and verbally and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders. Strong problemsolving skills and knowledge of criminal procedures or inmaterecord practices. Proficiency in Microsoft Suite.
Additional Considerations
Applicants with experience in criminal justice or closely related fields particularly in criminal procedures records processing or offender time computation may be given additional consideration. Familiarity with Virginia sentencing practices jail credit procedures or court documentation workflows is beneficial. Demonstrated proficiency with criminaljustice data systems highvolume record handling and independent decisionmaking in a legal or correctional environment will further strengthen a candidates suitability for this position.
