The Strategic Defense Solution (SDS) team in Richardson TX is seeking a highly motivated Principal Mechanical Engineer that is passionate about the design development and integration of dynamic electro-mechanical this role you will serve as a technical leader and subject-matter expert responsible for architecting developing and validating gearbox systems for complex mechanical and aerospace applications. The selected candidate will also work closely with other disciplines such as Electrical Systems and Test Engineering to ensure all mechanical systems and components meet requirements during all phases of our products lifecycle.

What You Will Do:

• Lead the conceptual and detailed design of gearbox systems including gear trains bearings housings lubrication systems and supporting structure.

• Communicate technical topics and issues in a clear and concise manner to both technical peers as well as non-technical team members.

• Contributes to the design and/or selection of mechanical and electro-mechanical hardware such as motors hydraulic pumps bearings and large rotating equipment.

• Perform analysis on selected components to ensure functional requirements of equipment are met.

• Conduct prototype build integration and testing activities to validate component and system level compliance with customer requirements.

• Conduct and provide constructive feedback during peer reviews.

• Mentor and document knowledge to provide technical domain guidance to both members of own team and beyond.

• Work proactively and in a self-driven manner with an integrated product team (IPT) to manage project scope and budget as well as identify risks and opportunities.

Qualifications You Must Have:

• Typically requires a degree in Science Technology Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 8 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 5 years of experience.

• The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance is required. U.S. citizenship is required as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.

• Previous experience in applying gear theory including spur helical bevel hypoid and planetary gearsets gear geometry contact ratio tooth-root stress pitting resistance etc.

• Proven experience in designing shafts bearings and gearbox lubrication systems.

Qualifications We Prefer:

• Active possession of a U.S. government issued Secret or Top Secret clearance.

• Application of commercial and defense standards such as RTCA DO160 and MILSTD810.

• Ability to apply industry best practices using 3D CAD tools preferably SolidWorks or Siemens NX.

• Previous experience conducting thermal and structural Finite Element Analysis (FEA) using Ansys Mechanical CFD or Fluent.

• Capable of interpreting and implementing ASME Y14.5 Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing guidelines.

• Previous experience with fatigue modal random vibration transient shock and acoustic analyses.

• Knowledgeable in key military standards including MILSTD1472 and MILSTD461.

The salary range for this role is 107500 USD - 204500 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer including but not limited to the role function and associated responsibilities a candidates work experience location education/training and key skills.
