About the Role:

The Preschool Aftercare Instructor plays a vital role in providing a safe nurturing and engaging environment for preschool-aged children during after-school hours. This position is responsible for supervising children facilitating age-appropriate activities and supporting their social emotional and physical development outside of regular school hours. The instructor ensures that each child feels valued and cared for while promoting positive behavior and cooperation among peers. They collaborate with parents and school staff to maintain consistent communication about childrens progress and any concerns. Ultimately the role contributes to the overall well-being and growth of young children by creating a structured yet enjoyable aftercare experience.

Skills:

The Preschool Aftercare Instructor uses strong interpersonal and communication skills daily to build trusting relationships with children and their families. Organizational skills are essential for planning activities and managing transitions smoothly throughout the aftercare period. The instructor applies knowledge of child development to tailor activities that support each childs growth and to recognize any developmental concerns early. Problem-solving and conflict resolution skills are frequently employed to address behavioral challenges and foster a positive group dynamic. Additionally the ability to remain calm and attentive ensures a safe environment where children feel secure and supported.

Responsibilities:

  • Supervise and ensure the safety of preschool children during aftercare hours.
  • Plan and implement creative age-appropriate activities that promote learning and development.
  • Encourage positive social interactions and help children develop conflict resolution skills.
  • Maintain a clean organized and welcoming environment for children.
  • Communicate regularly with parents and school staff regarding childrens behavior progress and any incidents.
  • Assist children with snacks hygiene and transitions between activities as needed.
  • Monitor and document attendance and any relevant observations about childrens well-being.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience working with preschool-aged children in a childcare or educational setting.
  • Basic knowledge of child development principles.
  • Ability to pass background checks and comply with state childcare regulations.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous experience specifically in aftercare or extended day programs.
  • Familiarity with state licensing requirements for childcare programs.
  • Strong communication skills for effective interaction with children parents and staff.
  • Certification in CPR and First Aid.


Abuse Prevention Responsibilities:

All employees are expected to maintain boundaries follow mandated reporting requirements and uphold our policies and procedures to protect youth and participants. This includes attending required trainings. reporting suspicious or inappropriate behaviors and adhering to procedures that minimize risk. Supervisors are also responsible for providing oversight feedback and accountability to ensure staff and volunteers follow these standards.
