In this position...

In this pivotal role you will serve as the subject matter expert for Low Voltage Power Supply rotating machines like alternators and Belt Starter Generators (BSG). As a Core Engineer you will drive the design development and validation of these critical propulsion and electrification components ensuring they meet Fords stringent standards for performance durability cost and quality across our global vehicle lineup.

In this role you will focus on actively preventing design and manufacturing failures early in the process and ensuring the design and release process consistently meets program timing.

You will collaborate cross-functionally with electrical systems powertrain NVH manufacturing and supplier quality teams to deliver robust next-generation solutions that support Fords evolving hybridization and electrification strategy. This role offers the opportunity to shape the technical direction of core rotating electrical machine technology influence design specifications.



Responsibilities

What youll do...

Develop own and author technical requirements design specifications validation plans and device transmittals for alternators and Belt Starter Generators (BISG) translating vehicle-level performance packaging and electrical load requirements into robust component-level specifications and proactively identify and mitigate critical failure modes.

Define and maintain design targets for output performance efficiency NVH thermal management and mechanical durability across diverse vehicle platforms and operating conditions

Lead structured root-cause analysis (8D methodology and Six Sigma principles) for design warranty and manufacturing issues coordinating cross-functionally with quality manufacturing and supplier engineering teams to identify true root cause and drive permanent resolutions for quality issues aiming for zero defects and actively preventing failures early in the design and manufacturing stages.

Collaborate with suppliers to evaluate emerging technologies that could enhance alternator/BISG performance design life and reliability. Ensure their designs manufacturing processes and quality controls meet Fords stringent standards.

Conduct competitive benchmarking and teardown analysis of industry alternator and BISG systems to identify best practices design trends and opportunities for differentiation

Understand and apply Automotive Safety Integrity Level (ASIL) principles as they relate to the low voltage power supply system ensuring functional safety requirements are met.

Take ownership of component delivery and ensure adherence to all program timing milestones within the Global Product Development System (GPDS) proactively managing the design and release process to meet deadlines.

Develop adapt and collaborate with suppliers to execute tailored DV/PV test plans for alternator and Belt starter generators. Lead rapid recovery plans in the event of supplier DV/PV failures guiding suppliers to implement robust design and manufacturing containment actions

Review evaluate and collaborate with suppliers on Supplier Request for Engineering Approval (SREA) submissions to ensure design manufacturing or material changes maintain 100% quality and durability standards

Support supplier sourcing activities by performing engineering evaluations and teardowns on prospective new supplier hardware



Qualifications

Youll have...

A Bachelor of Science in Electrical or mechanical Engineering or a closely related field.

Experience with Local Interconnect Network (LIN) and Controller Area Network (CAN) communication

5 years of experience with Alternators and Belt Integrated Starter Generators (BiSG).

Demonstrated experience in writing detailed component specifications.

Proven experience with root cause analysis and implementing corrective actions.

Familiarity with functional safety concepts such as Automotive Safety Integrity Lever (ASIL).

5 years of experience in component design and release is highly desired.

Even better you may have...

Masters degree in electrical or mechanical engineering or a related field.

Strong understanding and practical application of quality tools such as 8D and Six Sigma (Green Belt or Black Belt certification preferred).

Experience with vehicle electrical architecture and automotive power distribution systems.

Familiarity with Ford engineering processes and tools such as: Ford Engineering Design Environment (FEDE) Jama Global Product Development System (GPDS) Jira).

Experience conducting Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) and other risk assessment techniques.

Excellent communication interpersonal and presentation skills with the ability to effectively liaise between internal and external stakeholders.

Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.

Ability to manage multiple projects concurrently and prioritize tasks effectively.

This position is a salary grade 7 and ranges from $86600-$144900.

Final determination of salary grade will be based on candidates skills and experience and base salary will be set within the applicable range according to job scope responsibility and competitive market value.
