Job Description:

The Shimberg Center for Housing Studies at the University of Florida invites applications for a Postdoctoral Associate to join a growing research program at the intersection of housing inequality and affordability disaster risk displacement and health outcomes. The Shimberg Center is Floridas principal source of housing data and policy research and home to the Florida Housing Data Clearinghouse ( Postdoctoral Associate will contribute to an active research agenda examining how inequality shapes differential disaster risk and housing outcomes with a particular emphasis on the connections between housing affordability design development homelessness hazards and health. A current anchor project examines housing and health conditions in Jacksonvilles Health Zone 1.

Responsibilities include:

  • Design and conduct original research on housing inequality and affordability community development disaster risk displacement housing design and materiality and/or housing as a determinant of health in collaboration with Center faculty and staff
  • Contribute to data analysis and reporting connected to the Florida Housing Data Clearinghouse and related Center initiatives
  • Co-author peer-reviewed publications technical reports and policy briefs
  • Assist with the preparation of external funding proposals (e.g. federal foundation)
  • Contribute to public-facing communication of research findings (e.g. policy briefs presentations journalistic writing media engagements)
  • Mentor and collaborate with graduate and undergraduate students affiliated with the Center
Expected Salary:

Commensurate with education and experience.

Required Qualifications:

A Ph.D. (in hand or conferred by the start date) in construction management urban and regional planning public health architecture geography sociology disaster/emergency management or a closely related field.

Preferred:
  • Demonstrated research experience related to housing policy disaster risk and recovery displacement/gentrification health equity housing design and materiality or other topics closely related to the Shimberg Center mission
  • Experience working with quantitative housing demographic or health data (e.g. parcel-level data Census/ACS data GIS)
  • Strong written communication skills and a record of peer-reviewed publication
  • Experience contributing to external grant or contract proposals
  • Interest in Florida housing policy and willingness to engage with community and government stakeholders
