Polysomnographer Per Diem
Job Summary
The Polysomnographer will perform sleep studies to diagnose sleep disorders such as sleep apnea insomnia narcolepsy and restless legs syndrome.
- Prepare patients for overnight sleep studies.
- Explain the sleep-study procedure and answer patient questions.
- Apply and monitor sensors/electrodes that measure:
- Brain activity (EEG)
- Eye movements (EOG)
- Muscle activity (EMG)
- Heart activity (ECG)
- Breathing and oxygen levels
- Body movements and sleep position
- Monitor patients throughout the night and recognize abnormal events.
- Operate polysomnography and related sleep-monitoring equipment.
- Troubleshoot equipment or signal problems.
- Document and score sleep-study data according to established guidelines.
- Perform or assist with CPAP/BiPAP titration when ordered.
- Maintain patient safety and comfort during the study.
- Prepare accurate reports/data for physicians or sleep specialists.
Education: Licensed Professional - RRT/RN/LPN/ Polysomnographer - willingness to become RPSGT with in one year of date of hire.
Experience: 1 year experience in a Sleep Lab preferred but not mandatory.
Certificate: NYS RT Licensure - BLS required.
