Position Description

Position Overview:

Responsible for the general mechanical work required for the installation maintenance and repair of all plumbing equipment and systems for the efficient operation of designated County building(s).

Job Duties:

  • Performs all duties required to provide efficient plumbing operations at various county facilities such as estimating installing and repairing pipes and fittings installing fixtures repairing commodes sinks faucets and unstopping drain lines.
  • May be required to drive personal or county vehicle to various work sites.
  • Assists and trains less experienced co-workers and performs other duties as assigned.
  • Will be required to be on-call after hours.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Education:

  • High school diploma G.E.D. equivalency.

Experience:

  • Four (4) years of hands-on experience repairing plumbing equipment and systems in commercial/industrial settings.

License:
  • Current Journeyman Plumber License.
  • Valid drivers license (Texas upon hire) and a good driving record.

Knowledge Skills & Abilities (KSAs)

  • Understand and follow oral and written instructions in a thorough neat and timely manner and have the ability to read and follow blueprints.
  • Skilled in the care and use of hand tools and power equipment used in the plumbing trade.
  • Display mechanical aptitude.
  • Maintain courteous helpful behavior at all times.
  • Self-starter possessing the interpersonal skills required to be a productive team player.
  • Ability to obtain CJIS clearance and pass a security check and a drug test as required. This position is Safety Sensitive and will be subject to random drug and alcohol screening.

Emergency Deployment & Continuity of Operations Requirement:

In accordance with Harris Countys Continuity of Operations Plan (COOP) Policy this position is subject to emergency response and deployment protocols. The employee may be designated as supporting a Mission Essential Function (MEF) and must:

  • Participate in the classification process of departmental staff based on MEF responsibilities.
  • Be available for temporary deployment to an alternative work location role or telework assignment during emergency events.
  • Confirm work assignments with their supervisor prior to reporting to any worksite during such events.
  • Remain flexible in assuming alternative duties as directed to support continuity of County operations.




Applicants for this position will be subject to a criminal background check that includes being fingerprinted. This applies to any position with network access to Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS)or access to an area where CJIS is received maintained or stored either manually or electronically (i.e. custodian maintenance).

Automatic Disqualification:

  • Convictions probation or deferred adjudication for any Felony and any Class A Misdemeanor
  • Convictions probation or deferred adjudication for a Class B Misdemeanor if within the previous 10 years
  • Open arrest for any criminal offense (Felony or Misdemeanor)
  • Family Violence conviction

General Information

Position Type and Typical Hours of Work:

Full-Time Regular 40 hours per week.

Subject to early mornings late evenings weekends and holidays at times depending on the project or workload.

Salary: Commensurate with experience based on 26 pay periods.

Physical Demands and Environmental Exposure:

May work outside in all kinds of weather; may work with no air conditioning or heating; will work on ladders and scaffolding; duties require standing sitting stretching bending stooping climbing frequent lifting of a minimum of 50 lbs. of equipment supplies and tools and must have the ability to safely install rigging/lifting devices for heavier items. Will work in cramped and awkward positions with all types of mechanical tools electric and other equipment and may be exposed to dust dirt paint fumes etc.
