Job Summary

The Vice President Service Line Strategy & Growth and Physician Executive Surgery Service Line serves as the senior physician leader responsible for the strategic clinical quality growth and operational performance of the Surgery Service Line across Corewell Health Medical Group East.

The position reports directly to the President Corewell Health Medical Group East providing executive physician leadership for the development and implementation of surgical specialty strategy service line growth quality and safety initiatives physician alignment operational performance and innovation across the continuum of surgical care.

Within the organizational structure this executive role:

  • Provides leadership and oversight for the surgical specialty division chiefs and physician leaders representing General Surgery/Trauma/Bariatrics Surgical Oncology/HPB Breast and Plastic Surgery Thoracic Surgery ENT Orthopedics Transplant Surgery Neurosurgery Urology and Ophthalmology

  • Creates a unified physician leadership model that aligns clinical excellence operational accountability and strategic growth across the surgical enterprise.

  • Partners closely with administrative leaders in a dyad leadership model while serving as the primary physician executive for surgical services and maintaining a defined clinical practice commitment.

The physician is responsible for the diagnosis prevention and treatment of the health problems presented by the patients.

  • Develop and cultivate positive and productive working relationships with other Corewell Health personnel and promote a culture of safety teamwork compassion collaboration clarity curiosity and courage.

  • Demonstrate a commitment to service and distinctive personalized care with both internal customers (coworkers fellow employees hospital staff etc.) and external customers (patients family members referring physicians/specialists etc.) while striving to exceed customer expectations.

  • Assist in meeting operational financial and patient satisfaction goals. Timely completion of all specific competencies and annual organizational mandatories.

  • Assess and monitor the medical needs of patients.

  • Provide quality medical services to patients in a cost effective appropriate manner and ensure coverage of case load at all times.

  • Communicate regularly with patients families referring physicians specialists nursing staff and other hospital departments regarding the plan of care and treatment of patients including within 24 hours of admission for any major change in a patients condition and within 24 hours prior to discharge.

  • Document medical services in the patients medical record in a manner consistent with hospital payor and regulatory standards.

  • Participate in on-call and weekend coverage as required by the Department.

  • Participate in value-based reimbursement programs and quality initiatives as required by the Department.

  • Participate in Quality Improvement (QI) / Quality Assurance (QA) and peer review activities as requested.

  • Assist as requested in the development of policies and procedures as they related to medical practice and quality patient care.

  • Participate in ongoing process improvement activities through the development/application of clinical paths process improvement and other related activities.

  • Support patient participation in clinical trials and research projects assess clinical safety and efficacy data consistent with Research Institute policies.

  • Provide oversight teaching and mentorship of fellows residents APPs (e.g. physician assistants and advance practice registered nurses) and students and others (as appropriate) providing services to patients including meaningful participation with the affiliated medical schools as requested.

  • Required Doctorate

  • LIC-Physician (MD) - STATEMI State of Michigan Upon Hire required Or

  • LIC-Osteopathic Physician (DO) - STATEMI State of Michigan Upon Hire required

  • CRT-DEA Registration - STATEMI State of Michigan Upon Hire required

  • CRT-Basic Life Support (BLS) - AHA American Heart Association 120 Days required Or

  • CRT-Basic Life Support (BLS) - ARC American Red Cross 120 Days required

  • CRT-Adv Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) - AHA American Heart Association 120 Days required
