Job Summary:
We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Phlebotomist to join a healthcare laboratory team. The Phlebotomist will be responsible for collecting blood and other patient specimens accurately and safely for laboratory testing. This role involves working with hospital emergency outpatient and clinic patients while maintaining high standards of patient care specimen integrity and safety.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform venipuncture and other specimen collection procedures in accordance with established protocols.
- Correctly identify patients and verify specimen orders prior to collection.
- Collect label handle and transport blood and other specimens accurately.
- Ensure specimens meet laboratory requirements for quality quantity and integrity.
- Provide a professional courteous and reassuring experience for patients during specimen collection.
- Follow infection control safety and laboratory procedures at all times.
- Maintain accurate documentation and records related to specimen collection.
- Communicate effectively with laboratory staff nurses providers and other healthcare professionals.
- Handle difficult or challenging collections professionally and escalate concerns when appropriate.
- Maintain a clean organized and safe work environment.
- Follow applicable regulatory compliance and quality standards.
- Perform other duties related to phlebotomy and laboratory operations as assigned.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Completion of an approved Phlebotomy Training Program or at least 1 year of recent phlebotomy experience.
- Current BLS certification required.
- Phlebotomy certification preferred.
- Recent experience in a hospital clinical laboratory outpatient or similar healthcare setting preferred.
- Epic experience required.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to accurately identify and process patient specimens.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced healthcare environment.
- Ability to maintain patient confidentiality and follow applicable healthcare regulations.
- Willingness to work varying shifts including occasional weekends as required.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience with electronic health records and laboratory information systems.
- Experience collecting specimens from patients of varying ages and medical conditions.
- Strong knowledge of infection prevention and specimen-handling procedures.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with a multidisciplinary healthcare team.
