JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY

Worcester Polytechnic Institute invites applications for the endowed Robert and Carol Peura Professorship in Biomedical Engineering (BME). This prestigious professorship the first of its kind in BME will be a tenured faculty position at the Associate or Full Professor level. Applicants must demonstrate an innovative and sustainable career that integrates and balances research and teaching.

JOB DESCRIPTION

This position is aligned with a new hiring initiative focused on purposeful embodiment for engineered human health which calls for candidates whose research incorporates modeling and simulation. The Peura Professor will be a key initial hire in association with this initiative and as such will be expected to collaboratively work with Department School and campus colleagues and leadership to thoughtfully help recruit and mentor other faculty whose expertise also supports the effort. The individual is also expected to provide teaching and research expertise that supports BME strategic strengths and goals. Our Departmental areas of strength include biomechanics computational modeling biomaterials tissue engineering disease modeling robotic surgery advanced biomanufacturing and bioMEMs coupled with a strong interest in examining health disparities and the social factors that influence biomedical design and implementation. The BME Department values innovation creativity and collaboration.

Our department delivers a vibrant ABET-accredited undergraduate BME program with approximately 350 undergraduate and 70 graduate students pursuing BS MS MEng and Ph.D. arehoused in the WPI Life Sciences and Bioengineering Center at Gateway Park ( a state-of-the art mixed-use research a nationally recognized private research university with a strong focus on engineering science and technology. Located in Worcester Massachusetts the second-largest city in New England and just an hour drive from Boston WPI offers exceptional opportunities for biomedical research and innovation. Compensation:
