Location: Boone North Carolina PRN Non-Exempt

Youll assist patients with transfers positioning and mobility exercises while working under the direction of licensed nurses and alongside the patient care team.

Compensation: Starting at $17.46 /hour based on education and experience

Schedule: PRN; days vary; 3:00 PM 7:00 PM

What Youll Do as a Patient Mobility Technician

  • Assist patients with mobility limitations including transfers positioning and mobility exercises.
  • Promote patient comfort independence and overall well-being and recovery.
  • Perform all job functions under the direction of a licensed nurse assisting the nursing staff in providing patient care in accordance with your skills and training and the needs of the department.
  • Help the patient care team maintain a clean well-organized and safe patient care environment.
  • Communicate effectively and work professionally with patients families colleagues physicians leadership and volunteers.
  • Record patient information accurately and follow established protocols.
  • Maintain patient privacy and confidentiality and adhere to UNC Health Appalachian policies and procedures regulatory requirements and standards of behavior.
  • Promote the mission vision and values of UNC Health Appalachian.

Qualifications/Licenses

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent required; additional certification in patient care or healthcare support preferred
  • Experience: Prior experience as a Patient Mobility Technician nursing assistant or similar role in a healthcare setting preferred
  • Certification:
    • Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association required at time of hire.
    • Current certification as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) Licensed Physical Therapist Assistant (LPTA) Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) athletic trainer medical assistant paramedic Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) or other relevant health-related field; or actively pursuing or possessing a bachelors degree in a health-related field (for example exercise science or health studies) to be completed within two (2) years of hire in lieu of certification.

Knowledge Skills & Abilities

  • Knowledge of and ability to work within the scope of the Patient Mobility Technician as a dependent provider taking direction from licensed personnel.
  • Competence in delivering safe and effective patient care within the limits of certification and hospital policies and procedures.
  • Empathy and compassion with the ability to interact with patients in a caring manner that respects their dignity and privacy.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills for working with patients families and healthcare professionals.
  • Understanding of safety procedures and the ability to prioritize patient and staff safety during mobility tasks.
  • Adaptability and willingness to work in a dynamic healthcare environment with changing patient needs.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse team of healthcare professionals.
  • Knowledge of the continuum of care provided with keen attention to detail when recording patient information and following protocols.

Physical & Work Environment

  • Ability to lift bend and stand for extended periods while assisting patients with mobility.
  • Frequent physical activity including patient transfers and positioning.
