Job Summary
- JOB SUMMARY/PURPOSE:
The Public Service Officer provides support to the Citrus County Sheriffs Office by performing non-sworn duties that promote public safety and community engagement. This position responds to non-emergency calls assists in administrative tasks and supports sworn personnel in delivering services that enhance trust and fosters positive relationships within the community.
- ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Conducts parking enforcement.
- Prepares reports and affidavits.
- Conducts dwelling building or grounds checks.
- Investigates traffic crashes and directs traffic around crashes congested areas and hazards.
- Testifies at trials hearings and depositions.
- Assist patrol with taking reports not involving felonies or suspects.
- All CCSO employees are considered essential emergency workers and are subject to working in any capacity/hours deemed necessary by the Agency during activations including but not limited to in-County and out-of-County deployments.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to use a 2-way radio
- Ability to read interpret and follow procedural and policy manuals
- Working knowledge of computer software programs and Microsoft Office
- Strong customer service skills
- EDUCATION EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or GED.
- Successful completion of the Public Service Officer training program and an approved traffic crash investigation course.
- SUPPLMENTAL INFORMATION:
- Requires long periods of sitting standing walking speaking reaching twisting and turning daily.
- Requires grasping repetitive hand movement and fine coordination in preparing reports and using a computer keyboard.
- May require long periods outdoors in varied weather conditions with the ability to crouch crawl and occasionally lift items.
- Must have the legal right to work in the United States
- Valid Florida Drivers License
- If a current CCSO employee then no disciplinary actions within the last 12 months and completion of current position time commitment requirement
GENERAL PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS:
- Demonstrates polite helpful and courteous behavior respecting cultural differences when interacting with the public and colleagues.
- Responds to supervision guidance and direction in a positive receptive manner.
- Must be appropriately dressed and groomed.
- Reports to work promptly and properly prepared notifying supervisor of intended absences.
- Acts in a professional manner following established protocols and procedures.
An oral board with job-related questions and/or scenarios will be administered on a date specifically set with all potential candidates notified at least three days in advance of the specified date. The oral board passing score will be 80% or higher. The candidate with the highest score may be offered the position. The Sheriff reserves the right to make selections from internal or external sources.
