Paraprofessional Long Term Substitute

Avon Elementary School is looking for a caring dependable and patient individual to serve as a long-term substitute Special Education Paraprofessional. This position provides an opportunity to work closely with students and staff while supporting students with a variety of learning behavioral social and daily living needs.

The Special Education Paraprofessional works under the direction of the principal and guidance of special education and general education teachers.

Responsibilities may include:

• Providing academic and classroom support to students individually and in small groups.
• Reinforcing skills and concepts introduced by licensed staff.
• Supporting students in accessing and participating in classroom activities and assignments.
• Adapting or modifying assignments under the direction of special education or general education staff.
• Supporting students with social skills sensory needs and navigating classroom and school settings.
• Implementing student IEP and behavioral plans as directed by licensed staff.
• Reinforcing positive behaviors and assisting with de-escalation and behavioral support.
• Assisting students with daily living skills and mobility needs as appropriate.
• Collecting and monitoring student progress and required data.
• Collaborating with teachers and other staff regarding student needs and progress.
• Providing supervision and support during various school activities and routines.
• Following district procedures and maintaining a safe and supportive environment for students.

Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Minnesota drivers license or evidence of equivalent mobility.
• Ability to work effectively with students with a variety of learning and behavioral needs.
• Strong communication patience flexibility and teamwork skills.
• Ability to follow student IEPs behavioral plans district procedures and staff direction.
• Previous experience working with children or students with special needs is preferred but not required.

Physical Requirements:

This position requires the ability to frequently stand walk stoop kneel crouch reach and move throughout the school environment. Depending on student needs the position may also require assisting with mobility lifting carrying pushing or otherwise moving objects or students.
