Job Summary

Job Title: Operator Work Group Technician

Location: Kansas City KS

Reports to: Production Leader on Shift

Pay Rate: $25.59 hr. plus $1.25 hr. shift differential for night shift

      • Upon successful completion of the required training and attainment of Operator Certification the employees pay rate will increase to the Operator rate of $34.14 per hour.

Hours: Current temporary schedule plan:

      • The Operator work group may follow a two week 12-hour rotating schedule.
      • The E/F rotation works Tuesday through Thursday in Week 1 and Monday through Thursday in Week 2.
      • The G/H rotation works Sunday Monday Friday and Saturday in Week 1 then Sunday Friday and Saturday in Week 2. Day shifts run from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. and night shifts run from 7:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m.
      • All Operators may be rotated between shifts to allow all employees to have equal opportunity to gain experience with the line running at a cadence yet to be determined.

PURPOSE OF THE JOB

The Production Operator serves as a process expert and operator for assigned production and support systems. Responsibilities include safely setting up operating monitoring adjusting troubleshooting cleaning maintaining shutting down and improving equipment and processes related to glass melting operations including forming fabrication curing environmental control systems water reclaim systems material handling systems and associated production equipment.

The Operator monitors product quality equipment performance and process conditions to ensure the safe efficient and reliable production of quality products. The role supports production planning standard work execution problem solving continuous improvement training activities and operational excellence initiatives while maintaining safety housekeeping environmental and quality standards.

*** This posting is intended for an Operator position that will be assigned to the K6 production line. However the Company reserves the right to determine line assignments and tasks based on business needs and operational requirements that can be performed safely.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Work safely & comply with all safety standards and safety activities as required by the facility.
  • Safely operate monitor adjust troubleshoot clean and maintain assigned production and support equipment.
  • Execute production schedules job instruction sheets startup and shutdown activities changeovers inspections and standard work requirements.
  • Monitor and utilize production data systems process controls automated gauging systems and related operating systems to verify product conformance and document activities.
  • Support and perform quality inspections and verification activities.
  • Identify and address equipment process quality housekeeping environmental and safety concerns taking corrective action within the scope of the role and escalating issues as appropriate.
  • Complete required records reports logs and production documentation.
  • Coordinate operations maintenance engineering quality and leadership teams regarding production schedules equipment readiness operational issues and improvement opportunities.
  • Assist in responding to equipment failures process upsets jam-ups startups shutdowns and other operational disruptions.
  • Perform routine cleaning inspections lubrication protective coating application and 5S/ housekeeping activities to maintain safe and efficient operations.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives focused on safety quality service cost productivity equipment reliability and operational excellence.
  • Maintain compliance with all safety environmental quality housekeeping and plant operating standards.
  • All other duties as assigned.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • At least two years of experience in a manufacturing environment as an operator technician or equivalent
  • Minimum high school diploma or equivalent is required
  • Must be a US citizen or have the right to work in the US
  • Must be 18 years or older
  • Must be drug and alcohol free
  • Must be able to understand verbal and written instructions.
  • Completion of the following Work Keys tests

  • Locating Information/Graphic Literacy (4)
  • Workplace Observation (2)

PREFFERED EXPERIENCE:

  • Experience utilizing computers and electronic systems (Microsoft Suite SAP HMI screens etc.)
  • Experience operating manufacturing equipment in a continuous process or assembly line.
  • Experience trouble shooting machines/industrial equipment.
  • Experience driving a forklift/powered industrial vehicle.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving and troubleshooting skills in a manufacturing environment.

ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Exposure to temperature extremes.
  • Exposure to sounds or noise
  • Prolonged sitting or standing for 12-hour shifts and/or rotating shifts.
  • Repetitive movements.
  • Bending or twisting.
  • Handling controlling or feeling objects tools or controls.
  • Lifting carrying or moving up to 50 pounds.
  • Wearing respirator protection when necessary.
  • Regular attendance on site and the ability to work varied or rotating shifts.
