About the Position

The Operator II works out of Stansell Electrics Knoxville office assisting in all aspects of in the installation alteration addition and/or repair of electrical systems conductors and associated materials and equipment on any type of project. The Operator II must be enrolled in qualified (ABC or factory) classes and has between 2000 and 4000 hours of actual on-the-job experience with at least 750 hours of that operating equipment commensurate to the satisfactory completion of positions primary duties and responsibilities. Advancement opportunities are available by advancing to more senior positions or through transfer to skilled trades.

How Youll Make a Difference

• Helps in securing relocating and organizing materials small tools and equipment from and back to appropriate storage areas.
• Keeps work area and equipment clean by collecting and disposing of scrap excess materials and refuse.
• Keeps equipment tools and material clean and organized.
• Assists in pulling wire lifting shoveling raking hoisting and positioning materials.
• May operate less complicated hand tools and equipment under direct supervision of a foreman or senior operator.
• Digs trenches by use of hand tools and equipment.
• Operates directional drill pressure digger rock wheel digger derrick and crane proficiency.
• Assists in mounting strapping placing and burying conduit.
• Assists more senior personnel in less complicated electrical installations connections and terminations under close supervision.
• Performs other project related duties and assignments as instructed by supervisor.
• Meets attendance standards and complies with late/absence notification procedures.
• DOES NOT WORK ON ENERGIZED CIRCUITS OR EQUIPMENT.
• Helps keep equipment maintained daily.
• Performs all tasks in a timely manner.
• Understand and follow jobsite directions and instructions both written and verbal.
• Comprehends and abides by Stansell Electric customer policies procedures and safety guidelines. Reports all violations to immediate supervisor.
• Understand/Perform other project related duties and assignments as instructed by supervision.
• Read and interpret maps and instructional manuals.
• Keep equipment maintained daily.
• Bend conduit with hand benders and heaters.
• Assist in the operation of power threading equipment.
• Lead daily huddles to ensure crew understands expectations.
• Apply and ensure the proper use of Injury Free principles.
• Teach Operator 1 and laborers to operate entry-level equipment when necessary.
• Make basic field level repairs if needed.
• Work independently and guide day-to-day work of laborers and Operator 1s.

Smarts Skills and Physical Requirements

• Operates directional drill (DD) pressure digger (PD) digger derrick 30K excavator and/or crane proficiently
• Wearing personal tool belt at all times on the job. The waist tool belt as worn weighs approximately 30 pounds with tool pouch tools and nail bags.
• Lifting 51 pounds unassisted 20 times per day.
• Constantly moving about on the feet.
• Completing a full days assignments involving one or more of the following: bending stooping squatting crawling climbing kneeling balancing pushing pulling reaching over head and repetitive use of arms hands and fingers.
• Digging trenches and excavations either by use of hand tools or power equipment.
• Operating two handed tools/equipment such as cable cutters hammer drills compression tools and jack hammers.
• Transitioning from employee parking area or street into construction work areas and to access all levels of the building even if the only means of access is by O.S.H.A. approved site construction ladder or stairs still under construction but acceptable for use.
• Wearing all personal protective equipment at all times as required by the specific task; eye and face protection steel toe leather work boots hand protection head protection respirator arc flash protection etc.
• Climbing and working from all types of ladders; step ladders up to 14 A frame ladders and all size extension ladders. Capable of carrying and relocating up to a 12 step ladder by oneself.
• Operating company vehicles with manual or automatic transmission.
• Utilizing construction site sanitary facilities (Porta-Johns).
• Working a 40-hour work week with overtime and off-hour shifts as required.
• Personal weight including tool pouch tools nail bags and tool belt must not exceed 300 lbs. weight limit of a class 1A ladder.
• Possession of good hearing normal or corrected.
• Possession of good vision normal or corrected.
• Positive identification of wiring colors.
• Demonstrates the requirements of lifting and rigging for all applicable equipment.
• Be able to select the right equipment for a given task.
• Assess site conditions to ensure that equipment is properly set up.

Education

• High School Diploma or GED

Experience

An Operator Two is an equipment apprentice who is enrolled in qualified (ABC or factory) classes and has between 2000 and 4000 hours of actual on-the-job experience with at least 750 hours of that operating equipment.

• Able to operate a Directional Drill Pressure Digger Digger Derrick 30k excavator and entry-level equipment.
• Understand and operate equipment within the capability limitations and functionality of the machine.
• Know and follow the inspection of routine maintenance of the equipment.
