Job Summary
Position Purpose:
Under supervision and on an as scheduled basis performs duties of assigned position with a wastewater treatment plant setting.
Primary Duties/Responsibilities:
- When performing Operating Engineer IV duties:
- Under supervision monitor and control equipment listed below whose monitoring devices and controls are located in Area Control Center 5 and the operating floor within the Power House building. Equipment: Gas Engine Generator; Supervisory control board; Electrical switchboard; Dispatch board; Computer control counsels; Process Blowers.
- Visually inspect above listed equipment and operate the same equipment by local control when necessary maintain logs and change charts on a fixed time schedule. Adjust systems and controlled equipment to meet management and operational requirements.
- Respond to equipment problems: shutting down starting up standby and requesting maintenance as appropriate.
- Maintain record of equipment status.
- Cogeneration startup if necessary.
- When performing Operating Engineer III duties:
- Operate and adjust as required gas engine generators boilers pumps and biogas compressors and auxiliary Power Plant equipment throughout South Shore as needed.
- Make manual adjustments on Power Plant equipment to maintain proper operating levels; collect and run boiler analysis on Fired Heat Boilers.
- Maintain inventory on boiler chemicals reagents and process chemicals.
- Make out store requisitions. Obtain supplies.
- Record employee notification of illness and notify proper authority.
- Maintain a maintenance log of daily readings as needed.
- Make appropriate changes using the computer control systems and visually inspecting the related equipment.
- When performing Operating Engineer II duties:
- Locally observe and inspect the equipment listed below to ensure proper operating status within established parameters of pressure temperature and flow. Follow established inspection procedure start equipment locally as required; report any malfunction of equipment to Operating Engineer IV. Locate and eliminate trouble for Operating Engineer IV. Must be able to control Process Air Compressors locally. Equipment: Control panels Electrical switchgear; Computer control systems; Gas Engine Generators; Waste Heat System; Boilers; Pumps.
- Log operational status of equipment pertaining to pressure flow and temperature.
- Locally inspect and observe operational areas within the plant for fire hazards or unsafe activity.
- When performing Operating Maintenance Person duties:
- Inspect repair and maintain pumping equipment.
- Exercise and lubricate various types of valves and valve operators.
- Record preventative maintenance scheduled maintenance and emergency repairs.
- Maintain spare parts inventory and order needed parts.
- Keep and maintain accurate daily logs.
- Service Sampler In-take unit if necessary.
- Operations and Maintenance Operational Maintenance Persons are interchangeable between departments.
- Under supervision sources of authority are verbal instructions and operating manuals within the specifications of standard practices.
- Perform minor maintenance as assigned.
- Maintain a clean and orderly work area and equipment (Operating Engineer II and Operational Maintenance Person only) and security of ACC 5 operating area (Operating Engineer IV and III only).
Work Environment:
- Work is performed in an industrial environment with frequent unavoidable exposure in temperatures fumes noise dust wet odors and gasses.
- Work is performed on rotating shifts.
Qualifications :
Education/Experience/Background:
- High School Diploma/GED is required.
- Four years of experience of operating power house equipment in plants containing high-pressure boilers.
Required Certification/Licenses/Training:
- ASOPE First Class Operating Engineer License.
Physical Requirements:
- While performing the duties of this Job the employee is regularly required to talk or hear.
- The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop kneel crouch or crawl and taste or smell. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and distance vision.
