Job Summary

SUMMARY

The Simulation Lab (SL) Faculty provides comprehensive instruction to practical nursing program students in the simulation lab. Incumbent will participate collaboratively and professionally with faculty and staff to promote the evidence-based integration of simulation practices into the Nursing Program Curriculum. The role of the SL Faculty requires the ability to visualize opportunities to enhance the skills laboratory teaching environment coordinate academic activities to facilitate success of all students in simulated clinical experiences interface effectively with nursing faculty college staff and students remain current in INACSL Standards of Best Practices for Simulation.

This position qualifies for an additional $22000 in High-Wage High Demand annual stipend
This position is full-time 214/7 full time non-tenure-track faculty position to begin in the Fall Quarter of 2026 (September 21 2026)

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & OTHER DUTIES

Essential Functions

  • Coordinate scheduling of simulation activities.
  • Coordinate simulation resources in collaboration with the Administrator of Instructional Technology.
  • Provide structure for simulations i.e. simulation guideline debriefing educational resources for simulation simulation preparation work for students and faculty direction to simulation materials on Canvas simulation charting etc.
  • Facilitate evaluation of the incorporation of simulation equipment and evidence-based learning strategies.
  • Maintain simulation equipment with referrals out to third party vendors for maintenance and in collaboration with the Nurse Administrator as indicated per warranties of simulation manikins.
  • Support faculty in the use of simulation equipment for student teaching or remediation purposes.
  • Investigate and propose upgrades to learning technology resources.
  • Provide simulation orientations for new faculty and students prior to simulation activities.
  • Implement a coaching and mentoring plan for faculty and students in the use of simulation technologies.
  • Integrate evidenced-based learning/teaching strategies and simulation use in the Simulation/Skills Lab.
  • Participate in scheduled faculty and technology meetings.
  • Collects analyzes and evaluates simulation data and disseminates to nursing faculty.
  • Collaborates with the Director of Nursing regarding SL budget needs.
  • Developing initial scenarios and works with faculty other departments divisions and external partners to create HPS scenarios classes and training activities.
  • Supporting creating and maintaining the simulation-related usage schedule for all campus locations and buildings.
  • Facilitates simulation demonstrations for classes and visitors.
  • Serves as liaison to vendors and industry representatives to trouble shoot technical issues and solicit training and assistance for program faculty and staff.
  • Assists in the development of implements and enforces simulation environment safety policies and procedures in simulation classes.
  • Supports the tracking of student information including student hours number of sessions and notes on simulation-related activities evaluations of simulation experiences.
  • Attends and participates in periodic in-service training programs.
  • Establishes program evaluation process to include plan for improvement.
  • Collaborates with nursing faculty to assess student outcomes.
  • Write develop and update course curriculum documentation including performance objectives competencies lesson plans and content by analyzing industry needs in the field of nursing.
  • Develop and/or maintain industry-based program accreditation and/or ensure students are prepared for and have the opportunity to obtain relevant industry credentials and certifications
  • Ensure that instruction is consistent with current industry standards technologies procedures equipment and materials
  • Actively contribute to and participate in college-wide activities in support of regional accreditation and state and federal requirements
  • Deliver classroom management to maintain suitable learning environment by responding appropriately to student conduct/problems and provide assistance in solving them in accordance with college procedures.
  • Provide budget management which includes requisition and maintenance control of and safeguard inventories of equipment and supplies assigned to the program.
Non-Essential/Other Functions
  • Maintain friendly and cooperative relationships with respective Healthcarepartners.
  • In cooperation with other program faculty maintain program approval status through the Washington State Nursing Commission and work toward National accreditation.
  • Actively contribute to and participate in college-wide activities in support of regional accreditation and state and federal requirements.
  • Support College student achievement practices to ensure student retention completionand progression.
  • Participate actively and collaboratively with College Student Services and program advisory committees to support access to employment opportunities for students and maintain student job placement records.
  • Accountable for keeping personal development up-to-date; adding to skills and knowledge through courses that may be available through the Bates Technical College courses professional development committees etc.
  • Participate actively and collaboratively on committees for college as needed including but not limited to staff recruitment college councils etc.
  • Additional activities duties and responsibilities may be added with or without notice to meet college needs.
Supervisory Responsibilities
  • This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Qualifications

  • Minimum of a Masters in Nursing (MN or MSN); and
  • Five (5) years nursing experience; and
  • Must possess an unencumbered Washington State RN License; and
  • Simulation experience required with high and low fidelity manikins; and
  • CHSE Certification required within 6 months of hiring.
Allowable Substitution
If necessary alternative combinations of education and experience may be evaluated by Human Resources for comparability.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator (CHSE) or Certified Healthcare Simulation Operations Specialist (CHSOS)
  • Simulation experience in healthcare industry or college setting
  • Nursing lab experience in a college setting
  • Strong team and interpersonal communication skills;
  • Awareness of technology management systems;
  • Demonstrated knowledge of instructional technologies telecommunications and other information technologies that apply to instruction and distributed learning.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Microsoft Suite Applications e.g. excel word MS forms.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Learning Management System e.g. Canvas.
