Scope
The Nursing Instructor provides high-quality didactic laboratory simulation and clinical instruction in assigned nursing courses and programs while supporting student achievement safe clinical learning and continuous program improvement. The position promotes evidence-based teaching consistent evaluation academic support and compliance with institutional accreditation regulatory and clinical-agency requirements. The Nursing Instructor also contributes to curriculum development outcomes assessment recruitment retention and other nursing-program responsibilities that support student success and program effectiveness.

The Nursing Instructor is directly responsible to the Director of Nursing.
- Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Major Responsibilities
Instruction and Student Learning Duties:
- Provides instruction and evaluation in assigned nursing courses in day evening hybrid online laboratory simulation and clinical formats at RSCC campuses approved instructional sites worksites and clinical agencies as assigned.
- Teaches from the current ACCS-approved course directory Plans of Instruction RSCC curriculum plans course syllabi and approved program policies while maintaining alignment among course objectives student learning outcomes instructional activities and evaluation methods.
- Uses evidence-based teaching and instructional strategies appropriate to the delivery method adult learners and assigned nursing content.
- Provides students with current course syllabi and clearly communicates course requirements attendance expectations grading and evaluation methods clinical requirements progression standards and available remediation and support resources.
- Evaluates and documents student academic laboratory simulation and clinical performance in a timely consistent and objective manner and provides prompt feedback and appropriate remediation.
- Maintains appropriate office and student support hours and provides academic advising coaching and referral to RSCC support services as needed.
- Maintains complete and accurate course grade attendance clinical evaluation assessment and instructional records required by RSCC ACCS ABN ACEN and clinical partners.
Clinical Laboratory and Simulation Duties:
- Provides direct supervision of students in clinical learning experiences consistent with ABN standards course outcomes faculty qualifications student readiness and clinical-agency requirements.
- Maintains faculty-to-student ratios collaboratively established by the nursing program and clinical agency and complies with the ABN maximum of 1:8 in licensed inpatient acute-care hospital clinical experiences.
- Remains readily accessible to students during assigned clinical learning experiences to provide direction procedural guidance supervision and evaluation.
- Ensures students are assigned only to learning experiences for which they have demonstrated appropriate preparation and required clinical clearance.
- Promotes patient and student safety confidentiality professional conduct infection prevention medication safety and adherence to clinical-agency policies and applicable standards of nursing practice.
- Participates in simulation-based learning consistent with approved curriculum ABN requirements current simulation standards and RSCC policies and completes required simulation training applicable to assigned responsibilities.
- Maintains current clinical competence and knowledge relevant to assigned nursing courses and clinical areas.
Curriculum Assessment and Compliance Duties:
- Participates in development implementation review evaluation and updating of nursing curricula course materials syllabi clinical evaluation tools simulation activities and teaching-learning practices.
- Participates in systematic program evaluation outcomes assessment data collection analysis action planning and documentation related to end-of-program student learning outcomes program outcomes NCLEX preparation retention completion graduate performance employer feedback and other program indicators.
- Uses assessment findings and evidence to recommend and implement improvements in instruction curriculum clinical learning student support and program operations.
- Participates in selection and evaluation of textbooks learning resources testing products technology laboratory and simulation equipment and instructional supplies.
- Contributes faculty input to program planning resource needs scheduling clinical placement planning and budget requests.
- Maintains educational experiential licensure certification and professional qualifications required for assigned courses and responsibilities under ABN ACEN ACCS Policy 605.02 RSCC credentialing standards and clinical-agency requirements.
- Participates in ACEN accreditation activities ABN reports and reviews ACCS compliance activities institutional accreditation activities self-studies site visits substantive-change documentation follow-up reports and other regulatory or accreditation processes as assigned.
- Completes required faculty orientation and ongoing development in teaching and learning adult learning principles curriculum development assessment and test-item writing clinical education simulation and other areas appropriate to the faculty role.
- Participates in regular faculty performance evaluation and uses evaluation findings to support professional growth and continuous improvement.
- Maintains required documentation for faculty credentialing licensure verification professional development clinical-agency onboarding health requirements background checks certifications and other compliance records.
- Attends nursing faculty meetings division meetings College meetings professional development activities committee meetings advisory activities and other assigned institutional functions.
- Reports promptly to the Director of Nursing any licensure issue clinical-agency restriction student safety concern or other condition that could affect faculty qualifications ability to teach or program compliance.
Student Community and College Duties:
- Supports recruitment and retention of qualified nursing students through advising information sessions high-school and community outreach career events and other approved recruitment activities.
- Advises students regarding plans of study course sequencing progression requirements clinical eligibility licensure preparation career development and transfer or upward-mobility opportunities within the scope of assigned duties.
- Maintains professional relationships with clinical agencies healthcare employers community partners and other educational institutions to support high-quality clinical learning workforce responsiveness and student transition to practice.
- Uses RSCC-approved learning management student information assessment communication and instructional technology systems effectively and securely.
- Maintains confidentiality of student employee patient and clinical-agency information in accordance with FERPA HIPAA RSCC policy and applicable law.
- Performs other duties consistent with the faculty role as assigned by the Director of Nursing or other appropriate RSCC administrator.
- Qualifications
Qualifications
- An active unencumbered Alabama registered nurse license or active multistate registered nurse license issued by a Nurse Licensure Compact party state is required.
- An earned graduate degree in nursing or a related health field from an institution accredited by an organization recognized by the U.S. Department of Education is required.
- Academic and experiential qualifications appropriate to the nursing content clinical area and level of instruction assigned are required.
- At least three (3) years of successful full-time professional nursing experience or equivalent experience sufficient to demonstrate current competence in the assigned nursing field is required.
- Ability to meet clinical-agency requirements and maintain certifications health documentation background and drug-screen requirements and other clearances applicable to assigned clinical responsibilities is required.
- Postsecondary nursing teaching experience in classroom laboratory simulation and/or clinical settings is preferred.
- Experience with concept-based nursing curricula and ACCS nursing Plans of Instruction is preferred.
- Experience with ACEN accreditation ABN program approval and compliance systematic program evaluation outcomes assessment NCLEX preparation and/or nursing simulation is preferred.
- Current professional certification relevant to the assigned clinical specialty or teaching responsibilities is preferred.
- Must possess effective written oral interpersonal organizational technology and documentation skills.
- Must be able to collaborate effectively with the Director of Nursing nursing faculty students clinical partners administrators and support services.
- Must be able to manage multiple deadlines and maintain complete accurate accreditation-ready documentation.
