Multimedia Specialist

Job Summary
Under the general supervision of the Communications Director the Multimedia Specialist will assist in producing and maintaining various multimedia projects based on various city departmental priorities and needs. The Multimedia Specialist will produce and edit video motion graphics photographic audio and other content as directed for use on the citys cable television Public Education and Government (PEG) channel websites and social media platforms.
- Essential Duties & Required Qualifications
- Assist other departments with general A/V software graphics and technological support
- Performs official city photographer and videographer duties taking digital photographs and video and audio recordings of city meetings events and activities;
- Performs script writing pre-production planning studio/ field videography and post-production video editing;
- Maintains the citys cable channel programming;
- Posts photographic and video content to citys social media channels;
- Assists with the posting of video and web content by or for other departments;
- Organizes and maintains the citys photos and videos storage;
- Maintains display of agenda and staff presentations during City Council meetings;
- Schedules replay video of public meetings onto cable television PEG channel;
- Assists Communications and Community Engagement staff with graphic design needs for publications;
- Assists in the execution of social media campaigns and postings with supervisor guidance;
- Monitors and may assist in responding to comments via the Citys social media channels;
- Serves as a content editor ensuring all content meets style guidelines is accurate and contains correct grammar punctuation and spelling;
- Proactively searches for and assists in implementing technological and efficiency improvements or enhancements to cable television PEG channel city applications and communications technologies staff presentations and information-sharing.
- Participates in meetings;
- Available to work evenings weekends city events and/or holidays as needed for program operations;
- Performs all other related duties as assigned or directed.
Required Education and Experience
- Bachelors degree in communications cinematography or related field.
- Three years of experience as a Multimedia Specialist or related position.

- An associate degree with five years of related experience and training which provides the required knowledge skills and abilities
Certificates Licenses Registrations
- Texas Drivers License or ability to obtain a Texas drivers license within 90 days per state law and anacceptable driving record.
Preferred Education and Certifications
- Masters degree in communications cinematography or related field.
- Four or more years of experience as a multimedia specialist or related position.
- Knowledge Skills & Abilities
- Ability to operate multimedia equipment and software for photography video audio editing and graphic design.
- Knowledge of multimedia production visual storytelling public-sector communications accessibility branding and copyright requirements.
- Skill in using digital media platforms content management systems and social media.
- Ability to follow detailed verbal and written instructions.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.
- Ability to communicate with other employees and the public in a courteous and diplomatic manner.
- Skill in handling multiple tasks and prioritizing.
- Analyze situations and adopt quick effect and reasonable courses of action.
- Ability to work hours other than the regular daytime schedule such as shift work on call or emergency response situations (i.e. early mornings afternoons evenings and late-nights shifts weekends).
- Workers must be able to follow safety procedures and use safety equipment to ensure personal public and personnel safety.
- Knowledge of Methods and techniques of scheduling work assignments; methods and techniques for record keeping and report preparation and writing with proper punctuation spelling and grammar.
- Skill in using computers and related software applications.
- Ability to plan strategically.
- Ability to plan and schedule projects.
- Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with City employees the public elected officials and boards and commissions.
- Physical Demands & Additional Information
While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to stand walk sit use hands to handle and feel items reach with hands and arms climb or balance stoop kneel talk and hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision distance vision and ability to adjust be able to lift or move 50 lbs. Working Environment
While performing the duties of this job the employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; moving mechanical parts; extreme cold and extreme heat. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate but occasionally loud.
