As an Mission Support Specialist you will coordinate and perform and wide variety of administrative and management services essential to the operations of the office.
- The responsibilities described are for the full performance level. At developmental grade levels assignments will be of more limited scope performed with less independence and limited complexity.
- Provide support to employees supervisors and managers in mission support functions such as human resources occupational health and safety facilities management security procurement asset management and travel administration.
- Coordinate and monitor a variety of human resources and administrative tasks and projects.
- Research and analyze applicable rules regulations policies and guidance surrounding administrative programs.
- Analyze administrative information and data to prepare reports other written materials and briefings to managers.

Residency Requirement: There is a residency requirement for all applicants not currently employed by U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services. This residency requirement states that candidates must have for three of the last five years immediately prior to applying for this position; (1) resided in the United States; OR (2) worked for the United States Government as an employee overseas in a Federal or Military capacity OR (3) been a dependent of a U.S. Federal or Military employee serving overseas.
Probationary Period: You may be required to serve a probationary period of 1 year.
The qualifications for this position must be met by 11:59 PM (Eastern Time) on 08/14/2026.
Current Federal employees must have served 52 weeks at the lower grade or equivalent grade band in the Federal service. The Time-in-Grade requirement must be met by 11:59 PM (Eastern Time) on 08/14/2026.
GS-09: You qualify at the GS-09 level if you possess one (1) year of specialized experience which is equivalent to at least the GS-07 level in the federal government that equipped you with the skills needed to successfully perform the duties of the position. You must have experience performing the majority of the following duties:
- Carrying out specific portions of administrative projects such as new employee processing travel document processing data collection and analysis;
- Gathering organizing and performing analysis of data from a variety of sources to identify trends and patterns;
- Identifying and recommending solutions to administrative issues and providing advice to staff; and
- Procuring goods and services in accordance with an organizations policies and budgetary requirements.
- You may substitute a Masters degree or two (2) full years of graduate education leading to such a degree in any field or a J.D. or L.L.B. degree for experience required at the GS-09 grade level. Such education must have been obtained in an accredited college or university and demonstrate the knowledge skills and abilities necessary to do the work of this position. Check with your school to determine how many credit hours comprise two years of graduate education. If that information is not available use 36 semester or 54 quarter hours.
GS-11: You qualify at the GS-11 level if you possess one (1) year of specialized experience which is equivalent to at least the GS-09 level in the federal government that equipped you with the skills needed to successfully perform the duties of the position. You must have experience performing the majority of the following duties:
- Researching and analyzing applicable rules regulations policies and guidance surrounding administrative programs.
- Coordinating and monitoring a variety of human resources and administrative projects and activities;
- Providing assistance to management in the evaluation and analysis of administrative programs to identify efficiencies in program operations;
- Collaborating with internal and external organizations in the implementation of assigned tasks; and
- Advising manage on regulations surrounding essential mission support functions such as budget human resources management benefits and performance.
