Job Summary
AECOM is actively seeking a motivated and experienced Mid-Level Construction Inspector to support major transportation and infrastructure projects throughout the Chicago area. This position will play an important role in supporting construction quality materials testing and field operations for the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) Chicago Department of Transportation (CDOT) municipalities counties and other public and private clients.
This is an excellent opportunity for a construction professional who enjoys working in the field and wants to contribute to high-profile transportation infrastructure projects throughout the Chicago region. The role will provide exposure to roadway bridge structural and other transportation construction projects with an emphasis on construction materials testing quality control field documentation and coordination with project teams.
In this role you will work closely with inspectors engineers contractors laboratory personnel and agency representatives to monitor construction activities and help ensure work is performed in accordance with project plans specifications quality standards and applicable requirements. The ideal candidate will bring strong field experience sound technical judgment and the ability to effectively manage multiple project needs in an active construction environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform field and laboratory testing of construction materials including concrete asphalt aggregate soil and other transportation construction materials.
- Support materials testing and quality control activities associated with roadway bridge structural and other transportation infrastructure projects.
- Collect label transport and track material samples between active construction sites and testing laboratories.
- Conduct field observations and inspections to verify construction activities conform to project plans specifications and quality requirements.
- Support construction materials testing and documentation for IDOT CDOT municipal county and other transportation agency projects.
- Maintain accurate testing records inspection reports daily reports sample logs and other project documentation.
- Assist project inspectors engineers and quality control personnel with monitoring construction activities and documenting project progress.
- Coordinate with contractors inspectors laboratory personnel and project managers regarding testing schedules sample collection and project needs.
- Assist with quality assurance and quality control activities for roadway bridge structural and transportation construction projects.
- Perform and document testing related to concrete placement asphalt paving aggregate production earthwork structural materials and other construction activities.
- Assist with monitoring bridge and structural construction activities including concrete reinforcing steel structural elements and related materials.
- Identify and communicate quality-related issues testing concerns or potential specification deficiencies to project team members.
- Participate in punch list activities final testing project documentation and construction closeout efforts.
- Utilize experience and engineering judgment to prioritize assignments respond to changing project needs and meet established project deadlines.
- Coordinate with multidisciplinary project teams and maintain effective working relationships with clients contractors consultants and agency representatives.
- Safely operate company vehicles and travel to active construction sites throughout the Chicago metropolitan area and surrounding region.
- Provide on-the-job guidance and training to less experienced team members as needed.
- Work in an active construction environment while following AECOM client and project-specific health and safety requirements.
Qualifications :
Minimum Requirements
- BA/BS 4 years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education
- A valid drivers license is required along with the ability to pass a Motor Vehicle Records (MVR) check in accordance with company policy.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and active construction environments.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in Civil Engineering Construction Engineering Materials Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
- Experience supporting IDOT CDOT Illinois Tollway municipal county or other state transportation agency construction projects.
- Experience with construction materials testing quality control and field inspection for roadway bridge structural or transportation infrastructure projects.
- Experience with bridge construction structural concrete reinforcing steel structural materials or other bridge-related construction activities.
- Familiarity with IDOT construction specifications materials testing procedures inspection practices and documentation requirements.
- FE/EIT certification or Professional Engineer (PE) license.
- Experience with concrete asphalt aggregate soils and other construction materials testing procedures and documentation.
- Ability to interpret construction plans specifications material requirements and testing standards.
- Strong technical communication organizational and documentation skills with the ability to work effectively with contractors inspectors engineers laboratory personnel and clients.
