MFG Y-12 Assemblyperson 20289

Follows predetermined procedures and strict regulations required for assembly testing certification and records associated with assembly and disassembly operations. Operates various types of power hand tools lifting and handling devices (including overhead cranes and forklifts) spot welding equipment testing and measuring equipment specialized assembly and disassembly equipment and machine tools used in the performance of assembly or disassembly duties. Weighs and mixes ingredients and components collects and records data and evaluates performance of equipment and test results. Works in controlled environments requiring special attire.

• Must have a High School Diploma or equivalent (GED) and 18 months hands on experience in the set up and operation of both manual and CNC machine tools such as lathes mills and other machine tool platforms used in assembly dismantlement operations.
• Must have 15 months hands on work experience in the Y-12 Plant production operations or an equivalent combination of education training and experience at Y-12 or other locations. Experience in operational environments in nuclear or high-hazard facilities such as nuclear power plants DOD weapons facilities or similar will be considered for equivalency.
• Must have a demonstrated understanding and ability to comply with Conduct of Operations or similar operational discipline. Must be able to read write and understand written and oral job instructions procedures Radiological Work Permits Beryllium Work Permits facility/equipment postings Nuclear Criticality Safety postings and other operator aids. Must have demonstrated ability to recognize task-related hazards and demonstrated ability to work safely at industrial work and around chemicals and hazardous materials.
• Must be able to demonstrate the ability to use basic measurement tools which include OD/ID micrometers depth micrometers calipers scales tape measure and other prescribed measurement tools and/or gages as required. The ability to read and understand written procedures and/or specification used in the assembly or dismantlement of components and possess the ability to assemble components within a controlled environment to demanding tolerances is required.
• Must follow regulations related to security health and safety and environmental which include working inside a material access area (MAA) radiological contamination areas and/or with hazardous materials or chemicals. Additional requirements needed are excellent communication skills the ability to work in a team environment and a commitment to safety and security.
• Ideal candidate will demonstrate a questioning attitude to identify unanticipated conditions.
• Candidate selection consists of skills assessment interview and medical screening.
• The ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy clearance is required. Position may require entry into Materials Access Areas (MAA) and participation in the Human Reliability Program (HRP). If HRP is required candidate must complete a counterintelligence-scope polygraph pursuant to 10 CFR 709. This position requires participation in the Beryllium program.
• In addition the applicant must meet the requirements of DOE O 426.2A (i.e. High School diploma; or a DOE O 426.2A alternative).

• Experience in continuous improvement and lean manufacturing principles is desired.

Requires a Q clearance; however all qualified candidates will be considered regardless of their current clearance status. The ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy Q clearance is required.
