JOB SUMMARY

The Merchandising Intern is a 10-week hands-on development experience designed for college students interested in building a career in retail merchandising. Based at At Homes Home Office in Coppell Texas interns will work alongside our Buying Product Development and cross-functional teams on real business priorities while completing a structured Merchandising Internship Learning Path.

Interns will learn how customer and trend insights product development assortment decisions retail math financial performance pricing inventory and execution come together to create the At Home experience. Through a combination of instructor-led training on-demand learning hands-on experiences mentorship and real-world application interns will build practical skills they can take with them into their careers.

We are looking for students who are energized by great product curious about what customers love and eager to learn and make an impact. Interns will contribute as members of their teams and may be considered for full-time opportunities with At Home following graduation.

WHAT YOULL LEARN & EXPERIENCE

At Homes Merchandising Internship goes beyond on-the-job experience. Interns participate in a structured learning program designed to build both retail merchandising knowledge and professional skills.

During the 10-week program interns will:

• Learn and apply retail math through dedicated training covering sales growth markdowns margin inventory productivity sell-through turnover weeks on hand and other metrics used to make merchandising decisions.

• Build hands-on knowledge of merchandising systems and tools including PIM assortment and financial planning tools reporting purchase orders SKU management and data analysis.

• Learn the end-to-end merchandising process including assortment strategy product development Open-to-Buy Go-to-Market Good/Better/Best visual initiatives and how product ultimately reaches our customers.

• Develop analytical skills by working with real sales margin inventory product and competitive data and learning how merchants turn information into business decisions.

• Experience retail beyond the Home Office through a Day in the Life store experience Dallas Market Center visit and Distribution Center tour providing visibility into how merchandising decisions come to life across the business.

• Build relationships and learn from leaders and partners across Buying Planning Sourcing Quality & Compliance Marketing eCommerce Store Operations Supply Chain and other areas of the business.

• Strengthen professional skills through development experiences focused on Excel communication styles active listening business etiquette and presentation skills.

• Learn from former At Home interns about their transition from intern to full-time Team Member and potential career opportunities within the organization.

• Complete a final merchandising project using product performance consumer trends competitive analysis financial insights and eCommerce vs. store performance and present recommendations to At Home leaders.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Support the Buying and Product Development teams in the day-to-day execution of merchandising priorities and projects.

• Build a strong understanding of our customer product assortment trends style quality value and the end-to-end product lifecycle.

• Assist with product research and development sample reviews item setup product attributes pricing and other activities required to bring product to market.

• Apply retail math and analytical skills to evaluate sales margin inventory pricing and product performance.

• Analyze business results and customer trend or competitive insights to identify opportunities and make recommendations.

• Prepare clear reports presentations and project updates for merchandising teams and leaders.

• Partners with cross-functional teams including Planning Marketing Visual eCommerce Sourcing Quality and Compliance and other business partners.

• Maintain accuracy and attention to detail across product information reports systems samples and processes.

• Take ownership of assigned projects manage deadlines and communicate progress risks and results.

• Identify ways to improve processes solve problems and bring forward thoughtful new ideas.

• Present key learnings business insights and recommendations to At Home leaders at the conclusion of the internship.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Currently pursuing a bachelors degree in any field; majors in Merchandising Product Development Retail Business Analytics Marketing Design or a related field are preferred but not required. Preference may be given to students entering or completing their senior year.
• Genuine passion for product and curiosity about how customer needs trends design quality value sourcing and product development influence purchasing decisions.
• Interest in pursuing a career in merchandising buying product development retail product business analytics marketing or a related field.
• Customer-focused mindset and a desire to understand what customers want and how to create a better experience for them.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with an interest in learning and applying retail math and using data to make business decisions.
• Detail-oriented approach and a commitment to accuracy and quality.
• Proactive curious and comfortable asking questions learning quickly and bringing forward ideas.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to build relationships and work effectively in a collaborative cross-functional environment.
• Ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities meet deadlines and thrive in a fast-paced retail environment.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office particularly Excel and PowerPoint.
• Ability to work from the Coppell Texas Home Office Tuesday through Thursday and Monday or Friday as business needs require.
