Job Summary
Baystate Health a nationally recognized leader in healthcare quality and safety and home to Baystate Medical Practices the largest multispecialty group in the region is looking for a full-time Medical Coding Specialist to join our experienced Quality Coding team.
RESPONSIBILITIES: The Medical Coding Specialist plays an essential role in ensuring accurate coding billing documentation and regulatory compliance by translating complex medical record information into appropriate diagnostic and procedural codes. - Review and analyze medical records tests and clinical reports to accurately assign appropriate ICD CPT and HCPCS codes and modifiers in accordance with established coding guidelines.
- Abstract and enter medical codes and required demographic information into electronic systems and encounter forms.
- Identify and help resolve incomplete or missing documentation to support timely and accurate billing.
- Partner with medical and clinical staff to provide education and support related to coding practices and documentation requirements.
- Participate in quality assurance performance measurement and coding improvement initiatives.
- Monitor coding activity and communicate potential backlogs documentation issues irregularities or trends to leadership.
- Collaborate with coding and billing teams to promote accuracy efficiency and consistency.
- Complete medical record abstracts and coding activities supporting regulatory requirements physician peer review quality initiatives research utilization review and hospital planning.
- Maintain current knowledge of coding and billing regulations payer requirements and federal and state guidelines.
- Participate in meetings educational programs seminars and professional development opportunities.
- Follow departmental policies procedures quality standards and health and safety requirements.

- 8:00am-4:30pm or 8:30am-5:00pm

QUALIFICATIONS:
- Associates degree in Medical Terminology Required
- Certified Coding Specialist AHIMA preferred
- Extensive knowledge of ICD CPT and HCPCS coding systems third-party payer requirements and applicable federal and state coding and billing regulations.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with exceptional attention to detail.
- Ability to organize and prioritize multiple assignments while meeting strict deadlines.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with clinical coding billing and administrative teams.
- Proficiency with computer systems and Microsoft Office applications including Word Excel Access and PowerPoint.
- Commitment to maintaining current knowledge of evolving coding and billing practices through continuing education professional publications and seminars.

Note: The compensation range(s) in the table below represent the base salaries for all positions at a given grade across the health system. Typically a new hire can expect a starting salary somewhere in the lower part of the range. Actual salaries may vary by position and will be determined based on the candidates relevant experience. No employee will be paid below the minimum of the range. Pay ranges are listed as hourly for non-exempt employees and based on assumed full time commitment for exempt employees.
