Position Summary
The Mechatronics Teacher will lead the development launch and long-term implementation of a new Career Technical Education pathway in Mechatronics and Advanced Manufacturing. The position will support Cincinnati Public Schools in expanding student access to high-skill high-wage in-demand careers in automation robotics programmable logic controllers industrial maintenance engineering design and advanced manufacturing technologies.
During the first year the position will focus primarily on program planning and development with no assigned students. Responsibilities will include curriculum development lab design equipment selection and installation credential alignment industry partnership development CTE program approval support student recruitment and work-based learning planning. Beginning in the second year the teacher will provide direct instruction to students and support the continued growth refinement and expansion of the Mechatronics pathway in future years.
Overall Purpose
The purpose of this position is to establish and sustain a high-quality Mechatronics pathway that prepares students for industry-recognized credentials postsecondary education apprenticeships paid work-based learning and employment in advanced manufacturing and engineering-related fields.
Year 1 Responsibilities: Program Planning and Development
Program Design and Curriculum Development
- Develop a multi-year course sequence aligned to the F8 Mechatronics pathway and Ohio Career Technical Education requirements
- Create or adapt curriculum aligned to Engineering Principles Digital Electronics Computer-Aided Drafting and Modeling Industrial Robotics Automation Technologies Industrial Maintenance and related pathway expectations
- Align instruction to Ohio CTE standards technical skill attainment expectations industry-recognized credentials and regional workforce needs
- Develop project-based learning units connected to robotics automation PLCs sensors pneumatics CAD industrial maintenance safety and manufacturing processes
- Prepare course syllabi pacing guides assessments safety procedures lab protocols and instructional materials for pathway launch
Lab Development and Equipment Readiness
- Assist with the design and setup of a safe industry-aligned Mechatronics lab and simulated work environment
- Provide input on equipment tools software technology safety systems storage and instructional supplies needed for program implementation
- Support equipment installation inventory organization testing and safety readiness prior to student use
- Collaborate with district facilities purchasing technology CTE staff school leadership and industry partners to ensure the lab is operational for Year 2 instruction
- Develop safety training systems including PPE expectations lockout/tagout procedures equipment use protocols and lab management routines
Industry Credentials and Program Approval
- Support alignment of pathway coursework to industry-recognized credentials such as OSHA 10 General Industry MSSC Certified Production Technician FANUC Robotics Certification SOLIDWORKS certification and other approved credentials aligned to the pathway
- Participate in professional development and instructor training needed to deliver pathway credentials and technical instruction
- Support CTE-26 program approval documentation and other ODEW requirements as needed
- Develop credential preparation materials testing procedures tracking systems and student support structures for future implementation
Partnerships Recruitment and Work-Based Learning Planning
- Work with AMIP regional manufacturers postsecondary partners apprenticeship programs and district staff to develop advisory committee structures and industry engagement plans
- Participate in employer meetings facility tours externships and professional learning to ensure the pathway reflects current industry expectations
- Support student recruitment through middle school outreach family information sessions career awareness events counselor collaboration and student interest activities
- Assist in developing work-based learning structures including employer site identification learning agreement planning student readiness activities job shadowing internships and paid work-based learning opportunities
- Collaborate with school counselors and administrators to support student scheduling and pathway enrollment for the first cohort
Year 2 Responsibilities: Student Instruction and Program Launch
Instruction and Classroom/Lab Implementation
- Teach assigned Mechatronics pathway courses using hands-on project-based and industry-aligned instructional practices
- Provide instruction in engineering design electrical systems robotics automation PLCs sensors pneumatics industrial maintenance troubleshooting workplace safety and manufacturing processes
- Create a classroom and lab environment that reflects workplace expectations safety standards problem-solving teamwork communication and technical precision
- Differentiate instruction to support students with varying academic technical language and learning needs
- Use formative and summative assessment data to monitor student progress and adjust instruction
Credential Attainment and Student Success
- Prepare students to earn industry-recognized credentials aligned to the pathway
- Monitor student progress toward credential attainment technical skill development course completion and pathway concentration
- Support students in connecting pathway learning to graduation requirements postsecondary options apprenticeships military opportunities and employment
- Maintain accurate records related to student participation safety training credential preparation credential attainment and work-based learning engagement
Work-Based Learning and Industry Engagement
- Coordinate with district staff AMIP and employer partners to connect students to career exploration job shadowing site visits guest speakers internships pre-apprenticeships and paid work-based learning opportunities
- Support student readiness for work-based learning through resume development interview preparation workplace expectations professional communication and employability skill development
- Assist with Work-Based Learning Training Agreements learning objectives student supervision structures employer feedback and documentation of student experiences
- Engage regularly with advisory committee members and employer partners to keep instruction aligned to current workforce expectations
Future-Year Responsibilities: Program Growth and Continuous Improvement
- Expand and refine pathway curriculum based on student performance employer feedback credential outcomes technical skill attainment data and advisory committee recommendations
- Support growth of student enrollment pathway completion credential attainment and paid work-based learning participation over time
- Strengthen articulation dual enrollment apprenticeship and postsecondary connections aligned to Mechatronics and advanced manufacturing
- Participate in continuous improvement planning program review equipment updates safety reviews and long-term sustainability planning
- Support student participation in CTSO experiences competitions showcases career fairs and other leadership opportunities connected to manufacturing and engineering
- Mentor additional staff or support pathway expansion as the program grows in future years
Essential Duties and Core Responsibilities
- Provide high-quality CTE instruction aligned to district state industry and pathway expectations
- Maintain a safe organized and industry-aligned classroom and lab environment
- Use data to support student learning credential attainment technical skill development and program improvement
- Collaborate with school leadership counselors CTE staff AMIP employers postsecondary partners and families to support student access and success
- Maintain compliance with district policies safety expectations grant requirements CTE reporting expectations and ODEW requirements
- Participate in professional learning related to Mechatronics advanced manufacturing instructional practice student support credentials and work-based learning
- Support equitable recruitment and participation for students who have historically had limited access to advanced technical pathways
Minimum Qualifications
- Must hold or be eligible to obtain the appropriate Ohio Department of Education and Workforce CTE teaching license aligned to Mechatronics Manufacturing Technologies Engineering Technologies Industrial Maintenance Robotics Automation or a related field
- Demonstrated technical knowledge and industry experience in advanced manufacturing mechatronics robotics automation industrial maintenance engineering technologies or a related field
- Ability to develop and deliver hands-on technical instruction in a lab-based learning environment
- Ability to work collaboratively with students families school staff district staff industry partners and postsecondary partners
- Ability to meet all district employment background check licensure and onboarding requirements
Preferred Qualifications
- Industry experience in robotics automation PLCs industrial maintenance CNC CAD electrical systems mechanical systems or advanced manufacturing
- Experience teaching training supervising mentoring or coaching youth or adult learners
- Experience with industry-recognized credentials such as OSHA 10 MSSC CPT FANUC Robotics SOLIDWORKS or related manufacturing credentials
- Experience developing curriculum lab procedures safety systems employer partnerships or work-based learning experiences
- Knowledge of Career Technical Education Ohio CTE program approval WebXam or technical skill assessment systems CTSOs and industry credential reporting
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of advanced manufacturing mechatronics automation robotics industrial maintenance engineering design and workplace safety
- Ability to design engaging hands-on project-based instruction aligned to real-world industry applications

Working Conditions / Additional Expectations
- First year of assignment will focus primarily on planning program development lab setup training recruitment and partnership development with no assigned students
- Second year of assignment will include direct student instruction and continued program implementation responsibilities
- Future years will include instruction program refinement student credential support work-based learning coordination and pathway expansion as needed
- Position may require participation in advisory meetings employer visits student recruitment events professional development industry training and occasional activities outside the regular school day
- Position may require safe operation and supervision of technical equipment tools robotics systems automation trainers and manufacturing-related lab materials
- Final licensure compensation calendar and assignment details are subject to district HR collective bargaining and ODEW requirements
