WORK ARRANGEMENT
This position will work remotely during Bergviks South Bend office-development period and will transition to an in
office position once the local office is established. Candidates must reside in or be willing to relocate to the South Bend
area.
Bergvik North America Inc. headquartered in South Bend Indiana is a national leader in seismic-rated raised access flooring
systems. Our solutions protect mission-critical equipment in high-seismic regions military installations electrical equipment
rooms and HVDC converter stations supporting some of the largest renewable energy projects in the United States.

Position Purpose
The Mechanical Design Engineer is responsible for the development modeling detailing documentation and project support
of Bergviks raised access flooring products and custom fabricated assemblies.
The role includes the mechanical design of raised access flooring components equipment support assemblies pedestals
adapter plates brackets frames footplates and other fabricated steel products. The engineer will develop practical
manufacturable designs that satisfy project dimensions equipment interfaces installation requirements and approved
engineering criteria.
This position supports data centers laboratories critical infrastructure electrical equipment rooms industrial facilities
energy projects military or secure environments and other mission-critical applications. The Mechanical Design Engineer
must be able to support multiple active projects through design development fabrication installation and closeout.
Core Responsibilities
Develop mechanical designs for raised access flooring systems equipment support assemblies pedestals adapter plates
brackets frames footplates and related fabricated components.
Create and maintain accurate 2D drawings and 3D models for project-specific and standard Bergvik products.
Prepare general arrangement drawings shop drawings fabrication drawings assembly details installation drawings and
supporting technical documentation.
Establish component dimensions materials tolerances finishes hardware requirements and assembly interfaces.
Perform mechanical-design calculations and evaluations related to component sizing fastener selection fit clearances
tolerance stack-ups equipment interfaces assembly weight and product functionality.
Core Responsibilities (continued)
Design components and assemblies for manufacturability fabrication efficiency installation access serviceability and
repeatable production.
Develop and maintain bills of materials part numbers component descriptions drawing references and revision
information.
Review architectural equipment mechanical fabrication installation and client drawings to identify missing information
dimensional conflicts coordination issues field constraints and design risks.
Coordinate equipment footprints floor heights clearances penetrations cable routing support locations fastening
requirements and installation interfaces.
Ensure that drawings models bills of materials specifications project correspondence and approved engineering
requirements remain coordinated throughout the project.
Work closely with estimating project management manufacturing warehouse fabrication purchasing and installation
teams.
Coordinate directly with fabricators and suppliers to confirm that designs are practical manufacturable cost-effective
and consistent with available production capabilities.
Respond to technical questions and design-review comments from clients contractors consultants fabricators installers
and project stakeholders.
Prepare clear written responses design narratives product explanations and supporting documentation for internal and
client review.
Coordinate with third-party structural engineers and Professional Engineers when structural calculations seismic
verification anchorage design or sealed documentation are required.
Provide third-party engineers with accurate models drawings dimensions equipment information material specifications
connection details and project criteria needed to complete their review.
Incorporate approved structural-engineering requirements and review comments into Bergvik drawings models
components and project documentation.
Revise drawings and models in response to updated project information approved engineering comments fabrication
feedback field conditions or design changes.
Support fabrication and installation by answering technical questions resolving dimensional issues and evaluating
proposed product or assembly modifications.
Maintain organized project files revisions drawings models bills of materials technical records and supporting
correspondence.
Assist with product development prototyping testing standardization and continuous improvement.
Travel occasionally to project sites client meetings fabrication facilities supplier facilities or installation locations.
ENGINEERING COMMUNICATION STANDARD
Bergviks drawings models technical documentation and project correspondence must clearly communicate the
intended design.
The Mechanical Design Engineer must document dimensions materials hardware interfaces assumptions installation
requirements revisions and design decisions clearly enough that the work can be reviewed manufactured assembled
and installed without unnecessary back-and-forth.
Required Qualifications
Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering Mechanical Engineering Technology Product Design Engineering
Manufacturing Engineering or a closely related discipline.
Minimum three years of relevant mechanical-design product-design manufacturing or fabrication experience.
Demonstrated experience developing mechanical components and assemblies from project requirements through
fabrication-ready documentation.
Proficiency with 2D and 3D CAD software.
Experience preparing accurate models shop drawings fabrication drawings assembly details and bills of materials.
Working knowledge of mechanical-design principles materials tolerances fasteners fabricated metal components and
assembly methods.
Experience interpreting architectural mechanical equipment construction manufacturing or fabrication drawings.
Understanding of design for manufacturing and assembly principles.
Ability to coordinate dimensional interfaces between equipment fabricated assemblies building conditions and
installation requirements.
Ability to prepare technically accurate organized and client-ready drawings documentation and written responses.
Strong analytical problem-solving organizational and communication skills with close attention to detail.
Ability to work independently while collaborating with a small cross-functional team.
Ability to manage multiple projects at different stages of design fabrication and installation.
Ability to explain technical information to both engineering and non-engineering audiences.
Candidates with less experience may be considered if they demonstrate strong CAD mechanical-design fabrication
documentation and project-coordination capabilities.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience designing fabricated steel sheet-metal machined welded or bolted mechanical assemblies.
Experience with AutoCAD and one or more platforms such as Autodesk Fusion Inventor Revit SolidWorks or comparable
software.
Familiarity with geometric dimensioning and tolerancing manufacturing tolerances material specifications and drawing
standards.
Experience preparing bills of materials and maintaining part-number and revision-control systems.
Familiarity with welding machining cutting forming coating and steel-fabrication processes.
Familiarity with mechanical fasteners threaded components post-installed anchors adhesive products or comparable
connection products.
Experience working directly with fabricators suppliers manufacturing teams and field installers.
Experience with prototype development product testing product standardization or continuous-improvement initiatives.
Experience in data centers critical facilities laboratories industrial facilities energy infrastructure electrical equipment
rooms or similar technical environments.
Experience coordinating drawings and product documentation with external structural engineers or Professional
Engineers.
Familiarity with ERP product-data-management document-control or bill-of-material systems.
Engineer-in-Training certification is beneficial but not required.
Position Details
REPORTS TO Vice President Business Development
WORK HOURS This is a full-time position. Occasional schedule flexibility may be necessary to support project
deadlines client meetings site activities fabrication requirements or coordination across time
zones.
TRAVEL Occasional travel is required approximately three to five trips annually subject to project needs.
COMPENSATION will be based on relevant mechanical-design experience demonstrated technical
capabilities qualifications and proven expertise.
