Description

You will assemble custom automated equipment in accordance with engineering drawings and customer requirements often working with complex assemblies that require precise fitting and adjustment. Under the guidance of the Manufacturing Manager Lead Machine Builder or senior Mechanical Technicians you build install and troubleshoot mechanical assemblies and components. Your technical skill and attention to detail directly contribute to delivering high-quality reliable systems that meet performance and customer expectations.

What Youll Be Doing

  • Assemble manufactured and purchased components in accordance with assembly drawings design packages and customer specifications. Assemblies may include complex arrangements requiring fitting and adjustment to meet close tolerances.
  • Establish floor plan layouts and support the build of systems and sub-assemblies including electro-mechanical devices and automated equipment.
  • Perform machine build integration and installation tasks including system setup alignment troubleshooting and repair or replacement of defective components using established integration procedures.
  • Assume responsibility for the complete assembly installation and validation of machine systems ensuring all work is performed accurately and efficiently.
  • Verify components are correct for the build ensure proper handling of materials and confirm that print updates are completed and rework is properly recorded.
  • Adhere to project schedules provide status updates to maintain Project Status Sheets and contribute input to support continuous improvement on future builds.
  • Assign daily tasks to technicians as required and assist in advising and supporting apprentices and Level 1 Assemblers. Continue developing mentoring skills by providing feedback on performance and reinforcing safe work practices.
  • Work collaboratively with the team using shared technical knowledge to solve problems efficiently and communicate constructive ideas to maintain and improve manufacturing standards.
  • Report workmanship or design concerns to the Manufacturing Manager in a timely manner.
  • Participate in equipment tear-down and preparation for shipping.
  • Travel to customer installation sites as required to install custom assemblies and support scheduled or unscheduled onsite service including occasional evenings or weekends.
  • Perform all duties safely and efficiently in accordance with company Health and Safety policies.

Youll Be Great At

  • Applying strong math skills and clear verbal and written communication skills to support accurate efficient builds.
  • Demonstrating high mechanical aptitude with hands-on experience using measurement tools and a complete set of personal tools.
  • Reading and interpreting blueprints drawings and technical documentation with attention to detail.
  • Operating a variety of hand tools power tools and machine tools such as a knee mill surface grinder and lathe.
  • Troubleshooting mechanical hydraulic and pneumatic faults effectively with beginner-level PLC troubleshooting skills.
  • Working independently while also contributing positively within a team environment.
  • Remain open to feedback and maintaining a professional solution-focused attitude.

Level of Autonomy and Authority

  • Work with limited supervision within established guidelines defined standards and specifications. Escalate difficult complex or unusual matters to more senior authority when required.
  • Assume responsibility for the complete assembly debugging and installation of small to medium-sized machines.
  • Provide guidance and support to apprentices and Level 1 Assemblers assisting with technical direction and day-to-day problem solving.
  • Take direction from the Manufacturing Manager while exercising sound judgment in assigned responsibilities.

Key Requirements

  • A Certificate as a Machine Builder Machinist Maintenance Technician or equivalent work experience
  • Two years experience in building custom automated machines
  • Two years experience reading and interpreting drawings and solid models
  • Demonstrated knowledge of hand tools power tools and machine tools (Knee Mill Surface Grinder Lathe)
  • Two years experience using computers and computer software
  • Demonstrated effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to travel to customer sites for installation and service
