Mechanical Technician Level 2 (1st Shift)

The Senior Technician supports engineering and manufacturing teams by performing advanced technical tasks related to the assembly testing troubleshooting and maintenance of aerospace components and systems. This role requiresa high levelof hands-onexpertise attention to detail and the ability to work independently or as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.

Expected Tasks Duties and Responsibilities:

• Work with engineering to create test procedures plans and schedule.
• Read and accurately interpret engineering models drawings wiring diagrams assembly prints specifications and testing requirements.
• Take initiative to clarify uncertainties and in cooperation with engineering and other technical staff resolve and/or correct issues as appropriate.
• Able to operate machines hand tools power tools and refrigerant equipment in an aerospace AS9100 environment.
• Set up and operate a wide range of precision calibrated tools such as torque wrenches micrometers calipers depth gauges electrical/ optical measuring instruments.
• Stage assemble install and inspect aerospace mechanical electrical and fluid components by interpreting and utilizing engineering drawings provided specifications written assembly instructions and test procedures.
• Support engineering by leading diagnosis troubleshooting and repair of mechanical electrical and fluid assemblies from the component level to full system level builds.
• Support engineering by leading various component level and flight vehicle check outs including leak and system checks.
• Lead payload handling and integration operations that could include handling of aerospace and spacecraft assemblies.
• Operate material/hardware handling equipment including but not limited to hoists lifts tugs and other ground support equipment as required.
• Coordinate and collaborate with crew members to accomplish set tasks within program deadlines.
• Perform assembly and checkouts on various ground support equipment related to all aerospace and spacecraft operations.
• Collaborate with manufacturing mechanical electrical systems quality and design engineers to develop and document activities such as assembly work instructions SOPs acceptance test procedures and qualification test procedures.
• Direct root cause analysis and implement corrective action. Set up new production areas including tooling and equipment.
• Help manage routine maintenance functions such as daily clean-up of work areas to support 5S FOD clean room and safety guidelines.
• Consistently apply written verbal listening and visual media and skills as appropriate to ensure accurate communication.
• Proactively identify issues and problems and make recommendations for continuous improvement.
• Consistently take ownership of and responsibility for personal and team performance to promote continuous improvement.
• Support and administer tests and testing requirements on high value assets/hardware. (May Include vibe shock thermal TVAC and all other MI-STD and NASA standard testing)
• Review and acknowledge internal document control Coord Memos SOPs.
• Available to travel to testing sites customer facilities and events. Support project manager and system engineer in program meetings.
• Make presentations to program team and customers.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibility:

No direct reports.

• Level 2 technicians have the responsibility to assist in training less experienced technicians in their area of expertise i.e. mechanical electrical or test.
• Level 2 technicians are the secondary point of contact for assigned programs.

Minimum Required Qualifications:

• Associates Degree or High School Diploma / GED from an accredited school or institution.

Desired Characteristics and Experience:

• 5 years of experience working in Aviation Aerospace space or automotive industry in a technical hands-on capacity working with test performance and safety critical hardware assemblies that require high attention to detail and quality of workmanship.
• Minimum of 2 years of experience in a mentor or leadership role.
• 5 years technical experience in either mechanical or electrical assembly integration and/or test.
• Some experience in handling large aerospace components and assembling large tight tolerance structures.
• Qualification testing experience preferred.
• Working knowledge of high voltage safety: 480VAC 208VAC 270VDC 900VDC. Working knowledge of ESD safety.
• General Aerospace/Spacecraft/Aircraft/Launch Vehicle/manufacturing assembly and fabrication (in a clean room environment preferred).
• Soldering brazing or welding experience preferred.
• Experience in root cause and corrective action e.g. wishbone diagram 5 Whys 8-step Six-Sigma etc.
• Programming experience in MATLAB python and LabVIEW a plus.
• Detail driven and focused.
• Excellent written and verbal communication.
• Excellent interpersonal relationship building.
• Basic experience with 3D CAD software (NX preferred).
• Strong teamwork skillset.
• Time management.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.

Expected Hours of Work:

Full-time hourly crew members are generally expected to work a baseline of 40 hours per work week although a priority is placed on achieving results rather than tracking time. Daily schedules may vary but most employees work between 7 am to 5 pm. Intergalactic follows a 9/80 work week.

Physical Requirements:

This role requires sitting walking or standing for several hours at a time. This role requires the ability to lift and carry items weighing up to 50 pounds and occasionally lifting heavier items with assistance from other workers or equipment. Work may be performed on top of or underneath equipment in cramped or awkward positions.

Work Environment:

This job operates in an indoor office R&D and production environment and routinely interacts with other crew members and customers. Laboratory environment requires use of PPE including but not limited to safety glasses and closed-toe shoes. Occasionally hearing protection ESD equipment and gloves will be used. This role routinely uses both paper and electronic record keeping systems and communication equipment.

AI&T technicians will work with and around high voltage electricity and subsystems.
