IMEG is hiring a Mechanical Engineering Intern in Freeport ME to work with experienced engineers and consultants on engineering analysis design and implementation oversight of mechanical systems for the vertical building industry. This internship provides hands-on experience over 10-12 weeks.
You will assist with project design documentation coordination and job site observations while working within project budgets and collaborating with cross-functional teams. The team supports commercial industrial and institutional markets.

- Assist with design portions of mechanical-system projects according to code and IMEG standards.
- Assist with researching commercially available equipment resources.
- Assist with client relations project design notebooks and documentation for permanent record files.
- Assist with coordinating design and schedules with architectural structural electrical mechanical technology clerical and equipment-supplier disciplines.
- Assist with documenting design decisions meetings and client instructions while monitoring project design progress.
- Assist with reviewing project documents for accuracy and completeness before requesting a final check.
- Assist with preparing and issuing addendum information.
- Conduct periodic job site observations and other services required by the contract services agreement.
- Completed at least 2 years towards a Bachelor of Science (BS) Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent required
- Strong interest in design consulting
- Proficient with MS Office Suite including but not limited to Word Excel and Outlook
- Skilled in AutoCAD and/or Building Information Modeling (BIM) software
- Ability to clearly communicate in both oral and written communication to individuals or groups
- Prior internship experience in the building design consulting industry preferred
- HVAC and mechanical systems that enhance performance and advance sustainability
- Multiple international ASHRAE Technology Awards for energy-efficient design
- Specialties include geothermal chilled beams central plants and energy recovery
- Lifecycle analysis and rapid energy modeling for high-performance outcomes
- Projects across high-rise healthcare and industrial facilities

State of Maine Pay Range: $22.00$24.00 per hour
The range listed above represents the base pay IMEG reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for this position in the work location identified above at the time of posting. For positions available in multiple locations the minimums and maximums may vary based on work location.
Individual compensation will be determined based on job-related factors including the candidates experience education knowledge skills abilities and licensure and certifications.
