Mechanic

Summary/Objective

To maintain the district busses and vehicles in safe and operative condition.

Essential Functions

1. Responds to all internal and external customers as it relates to the position in a prompt efficient friendly and patient manner
2. Performs moderate to complex repairs on gasoline and diesel vehicles
3. Identifies and indicates the need for parts for repair
4. Performs preventative and corrective maintenance and keeps records of time materials and parts utilized
5. Overhauls and rebuilds engines transmissions differentials brake systems and other major components by repair or replacement of parts
6. Repairs and rebuilds generators alternators and all other electrical components utilizing testing devices and machine equipment as required
7. Performs minor body repair on vehicles
8. Repairs and replaces seats glass sheet metal latches and other body components and assemblies
9. Changes oil filters installs anti-freeze repairs tires adjusts brakes and lubricates chassis wheel bearings and other assemblies as required. Performs all required preventative maintenance and regular bus safety inspections
10. Make roadside repairs as required
11. Perform required state inspections; comply with all federal state county and local regulations
12. Cleans and maintains all tools and testing equipment
13. Road or ground tests all repaired equipment
14. Available for scheduled and unscheduled overtime
15. Maintains knowledge of and adheres to all policies regulations and rules
16. Performs related duties as assigned in a safe and prudent manner

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

At-Will Notice of Employment does not provide a guarantee of a particular schedule of work or a minimum number of days or hours.

This is a 12-month 40-hour per week position. This position is eligible for medical benefits. Employee will work eight hours per day Monday through Friday. Extended work hours to meet deadlines may occasionally be required.

Required Education and Experience

1. High School Diploma or equivalent
2. Two years of automotive diesel mechanic experience preferred involving moderately complex repair and maintenance
3. Satisfactory criminal background check

Preferred Education and Experience

1. Knowledge in the use of vehicle testing equipment and technical manuals

Required Certifications/Licenses

Valid Arizona Commercial Drivers License

Work Authorization/Security Clearance

Must be able to pass a criminal background check and obtain a Fingerprint Clearance Card with an IVP number through the Arizona Department of Public Safety.
