Job Summary
The job of Mechanic III is done for the purpose/s of overseeing the transportation fleet maintenance; ensuring the availability of vehicles in a safe operating condition includes determining needed repairs and/or replacements on district vehicles; performing required repairs and preventive maintenance and providing written documentation of repairs to meet district state and federal requirements.
This position reports to the Maintenance/Transportation Supervisor and is a 0.75 FTE (6 hours per day) Mechanic position.
Essential Functions
Assesses incidents complaints accidents and/or potential emergency situations for the purpose of resolving or recommending a resolution to the situation.
Coordinates preventive vehicle maintenance programs for the purpose of maintaining vehicles in a safe operating condition.
Diagnoses actual or potential vehicle malfunctions for the purpose of determining needed vehicle repairs and/or replacements.
Directs Mechanic I as may be required for the purpose of ensuring functions are performed efficiently and in conformance with required safety and refulatory standards.
Fabricates parts for the purpose of providing items necessary for repairs.
Inspects assigned vehicles (e.g. brake system oil levels coolant tire pressure exterior condition etc.) for the purpose of ensuring that the vehicle is in a safe operating condition.
Maintains records of repairs costs vehicle warranties etc. for the purpose of documenting required information and meeting federal and state requirements.
Maintains tools equipment and/or shop area for the purpose of ensuring the availability and functioning of required tools and equipment within a safe work area.
Orders equipment parts and supplies (e.g. replacement parts materials etc.) for the purpose of maintaining inventory and ensuring availability of required items.
Performs minor body work (e.g. front ends fenders upholstery etc.) for the purpose of maintaining the appearance and safe operation of the vehicles.
Repairs vehicle systems/components etc. for the purpose of ensuring the availability of vehicles in safe operating condition.
Replaces worn and/or defective vehicle parts/systems (e.g. heating electrical tires pumps etc.) for the purpose of ensuring the availability of vehicles in a safe operating condition.
Responds to road calls regarding disabled vehicles for the purpose of performing emergency repair work in the field.
Other Functions
Assists other personnel as may be required for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities.
Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.
Job Requirements: Minimum Qualifications Skills Knowledge and Abilities
SKILLS are required to perform multiple highly complex technical tasks with a need to occasionally upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skills required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: performing a wide variety of tasks related to automotive repair engine rebuilding and transportation fleet maintenance; administering first aid; handling hazardous materials; operating equipment used in vehicle maintenance; planning and managing projects; preparing and maintaining accurate records; and using pertinent software applications.
KNOWLEDGE is required to perform basic math including calculations using fractions percents and/or ratios; read technical information compose a variety of documents and/or facilitate group discussions; and solve practical problems. Specific knowledge required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job includes: automotive mechanics to include gas diesel and propane-fueled engines; state certification requirements and district safety requirements for vehicle; provisions of the OR Motor Vehicle & State Dept of Ed laws; safety practices and procedures; streets and roads within
District boundaries
ABILITY is required to schedule activities; gather collate and/or classify data; and consider a wide variety of factors when using equipment. Flexibility is required to work with others; work with data utilizing defined but different processes; and operate equipment using a variety of processes. Ability is also required to work with others; work with similar types of data; and utilize a wide variety of types of job-related working with others Problem solving with data requires analysis based on organizational objectives; and problem solving with equipment is significant. Specific abilities

Working Environment
The usual and customary methods of performing the jobs functions require the following physical demands: significant lifting carrying pushing and/or pulling; some climbing and balancing; frequent stooping kneeling crouching and/or crawling; and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 5% sitting 25% walking and 70% standing. The job is performed under minimal temperature variations and some hazardous conditions.

Experience Job related experience within specialized field is required.

CPR/First Aid Certificate; DMV/CDL License; and Valid
