The Nuclear Material Control & Accountability (NMC&A) department is seeking a Material Control Manager to lead the planning documentation and implementation of programs dedicated to the protection and control of Special Nuclear Materials (SNM). This critical management position is responsible for ensuring the absolute security of SNM overseeing a diverse network of material control systems and resolving complex operational anomalies. The incumbent will provide strategic oversight and serve as the material control Subject Matter Expert (SME) playing a vital role in coordinating security interfaces and implementing corrective actions to safeguard high-consequence assets.
This role requires deep expertise in advanced NMC&A principles and a comprehensive understanding of how physical processes material flows and security protocols intersect. The manager will interface with a wide range of stakeholders across the site including production and operations management chemical operators accountants protective forces vulnerability assessment teams and executive leadership. Key responsibilities include integrating Material Balance Area (MBA) custodians into production processes to provide real-time oversight and ensuring that all activities align with strict federal guidelines. This work is fundamental to site security and compliance directly impacting the integrity of the facilitys nuclear material control program and its operational authorization.
Provides authoritative direction and hands-on management for the protection and control of accountable nuclear materials across the site. Serves as the primary NMC&A representative and material control SME during issues management event investigations critiques and corrective action planning. Leads the rapid resolution of anomalous material conditions identifying key vulnerabilities and implementing comprehensive corrective strategies. Collaborates closely with protective forces facility management and security operations personnel to ensure an integrated robust approach to physical security and material accountability.
Manages and integrates the team of NMC&A personnel within active production and operational areas to provide continuous oversight of the NMC&A program. Ensures that these custodians possess extensive localized operational knowledge of their specific production areas and are fully trained on applicable NMC&A requirements. Verifies that the custodial team understands the varied technical processes of their assigned areasspanning chemistry metallurgy physics and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)to maintain precise oversight of material operations product generation and by-product processing.

- Bachelors degree: Minimum of 7 years of relevant security NMC&A or operations experience
- Masters degree and previous NMC&A experience is desired
- Experience/familiarity with Y-12 nuclear operations nuclear material accounting system handling/storage/processing of accountable nuclear materials and roll up evaluations is highly desirable
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills and ability to interface effectively with various clients (production and support organizations). Requires the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously
